Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

No one is putting Lamela in the first XI. I’m just saying he is serviceable as a bench player and if we have a string of injuries there are certainly worse options of players we could be stuck with.

The Dele situation is a little strange but I really don’t think he will leave this window unless he just refuses to play and forces his way out. I don’t see that happening. He will stay and fight for his spot.

I’d really just rather not have to take players out of their natural position if Kane goes down. We’d be much better suited to have a true striker step in and allow Son and others to stay at their best position.

Am I saying we couldn’t use another AM? No. I certainly wouldn’t mind adding another. But I think a ST and a CB are much bigger needs right now.

I agree CB is a key need. I think it’s impossible to watch us play and think striker isa bigger need than CM/AM, especially with Bale coming on board as he can play striker as can Son. Southampton (!!) completely overran us in midfield in the first half. I know a lot of people believe in Ndombele. I don’t. Winks and Sissoko and Hojbjerg look serviceable at best. GLC is the real deal. That’s simply not good enough.

I’m also not buying Dele or Lamela. Dele has never played that AM role in an Eriksen mold effectively. He’s just not a link up player. Lamela maybe could but given he more or less never has in his god knows how many years at the club, I’d say it’s not gonna happen.

Two weeks left and no striker, that just shows you how they lack any plan, They are just looking for something to come along that might be cheap. Shit planning!

Its key to remember, a football game is 90 minutes; with 2 halves.

You say we were outplayed by Saints in the first half, but I would argue that we put the ball in the net 3 times; with 2 of them being very borderline offside. The second half was dictated by the lack of conditioning of the Saints players. Did Mourinho;s setup cause them to blow their load in the first half?

We were playing on the counter attack; and to do that you have to give the other team an amount of confidence to push forward - that means giving up the ball and allowing them to build momentum. So what looks like us 'playing crap' can often be tactical and in effect, playing possum - something that Liverpool have been especially good at for the past few seasons under Klopp.

Or maybe they think Bale and Son are perfectly adequate backups.

This obsession with a back up striker is getting beyond absurd. We need a CB but according to the expects in here having a striker on the bench is what this team desperately needs

No Mourinho does not think this, he still wants a back up striker.

I can see why Levy is moving for more targets now in a sense.

The introduction to bringing fans back to stadiums isnt going to happen until March now at least. Add to that no NFL or concerts. With FFP relaxed and Spurs needing to get back into the UCL next season then it makes sense Levy gets players in now and sees how it pans out.

Either that or we’re selling Kane

After Bale?

We have 3 players who can play the striker role but a 4th is desperately needed.

We have had an excellent window - if we get CB even more so but all the talk about a bloody back up striker who will sit on the bench for the majority of league games . It is utterly bizarre
Yep.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has reaffirmed his wish to bring in an additional striker before the close of the transfer window.
Despite the arrivals of Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid, as well as Heung-min Son's remarkable display of clinical finishing at Southampton, the Spurs boss still wants to add another striker to his squad, with Danny Ings among his targets .

Spurs have enquired about the England international and continue to monitor his contract situation – but Southampton have insisted he is not for sale at any price.
"For a season like this we need a good squad and we need two players for each position. So there you go.

"Gareth, when fit and in condition, is one of the top players in Europe, and Sergio was amazing last season in Sevilla
"So if you ask me if I'm happy to have these players I have to say yes I am but there are other things that make a team and make a squad. A squad is a puzzle, a squad is a puzzle and in this moment our squad is not a puzzle and that's a problem that we have to understand."

There you have it, so the question is are ENIC going to listen to what he says or not.

How many times in his career has Bale played striker?

Are we going to continue to play Kane and Son twice a week ignoring how that has worked in the past?

If we sign a back-up striker why does that mean we can’t sign a CB and/or a CM?

It is a clear need, I don’t get why people struggle with this or feel the need to make up some false narrative where people only want a back-up striker and nothing else?

I must have missed where he said we need a striker in that. He is taking about a squad and having cover.

If our forward options of Kane, Son and Bale are not deemed enough then something is a miss.

Again the priority is a CB - Vertonghen is gone, Dier and Sanchez are average and Toby is on the wane. And yet the supporters constantly talk about a reserve striker being the priority and stating the board have failed by not being one in.

The priority was alway the defence this window and a DM. It’s almost as if some didn’t bother watching us last year

Plenty of times for Wales.

If anything he is more suited to that role now than as wing forward given that he no longer has the pace he once did

I've heard the knees horror stories, but if they are over-played.....

Why are they so desperate to get rid?
It's not that Napoli are desperate to get rid. It's more that Milik has one year left on his deal so they need to sell now to get any money. And they have also brought in Osimhen as Gatusso's new striker. So Milik wants the move because he has not only Osimhen, but Mertens, Llorente and Insigne to contend with.
