As an American myself (of immigrant background, which is true even of the “real Americans”), I am proud of my country, but that doesn’t mean the nation is flawless. Just like I am very proud and love my kids, but can recognize their weaknesses.

As an American, perhaps you can answer two questions that have puzzled me for a time.

1. Why do so many Americans feel they have to fly the flag outside their houses ? No other country I've ever been to seems to feel this need. Are they really that insecure or is it just jingoism ?

2. Why do they call it the "World Series" and the winners, "World Champions" when only N. America competes ?
