Woodward couldn't even cope with a bit of poker from Dortmund... imagine what would Levy would do to him.

Not only would he not get Son or Kane, he'd leave the negotiations so distraught that he'll be praying for Man United fans to burn his house down (as they've nearly done before), just to end the misery.
G.Neville still has his head in their glory days and still hasn't entirely accepted how shit they are now.
Gone are the days when they could poach /tap-up spurs players at will.

If anything next season van de beek would strongly reconsider the mistake he made

One year on from Pochettino getting sacked for playing tedious, midfield-less crap, we're still churning out midfield-less, tempo-less, humpball like that.

Kane's responsible for setting up or scoring about 75% of all our goals through outstanding individual moments. Tonight he saved us from being a goal down before we'd scored with our first shot on target on the 76th minute. We are more the Harry Kane team than we've ever been.

And we are still watching a midfield pair containing that lobotomised rhino Sissoko bunting the ball backwards to whoever just hot potato'd it to him, that's when he actually gets forced to receive the fucking thing. Dier humping the ball out of touch every 10 minutes. The Brazilian Lennon aimlessly bouncing around like a peptic pinball. fucking Doherty makes Trippier look like Carvahal.

Our attacking players look like they haven't been coached for months, they all just stand around when we have the ball waiting for a miracle of immaculate conception, apart from Son who gets a PCP enema whenever Kane gets the ball on the halfway line.

Just because football's gone a bit bonkers, Utd, Woolwich and Chelsea are all stupid enough to let the kit boy manage their teams, City are running on fumes from 3 years of Pep and we might somehow Kane-grind our way to a top four place, doesn't make what we are doing great. It really fucking isn't.

Tonight's victory was the footballing equivalent of getting a hand job from a tranny whilst they simultaneously scrape the other hand down a fucking blackboard.

It was clear to me that the game went exactly how Mourinho and the team expected.Boring and frustrating to watch? - yes. Did we win? - yes. Did anyone get injured? - no. Did anyone put in a shift and will need a rest? - no.

a) From my recollection, Jose never left his seat to 'yell' instructions.

b) All players were taking extra touches. We weren't moving the ball quickly and that seemed to be the plan.

c) Not scoring early does have its advantages. The other team remain cautions and don't commit to attacking.

d) Burnley are set piece specialists. Knowing how fragile our defence has been, we couldn't risk being pinned back for large parts of the game hoping to play on the counter.

e) Team choice
Sissoko was chosen ahead of Lo Celso for his physicality and defending of set pieces.
Toby was chosen ahead of Sanchez for his height.
Davies chosen ahead of Sergio as we were not playing with pace on the break.

f) We play again Thursday. Bale, Sergio, GLC, Winks, Alli, Bergjwin all rested and ready to go!

Interestingly this match reminded me of games under Poch.

Calm. Take your time. Take and extra touch. Wait for the right moment, there is no rush. Keep the ball at all costs; go backwards if you need.

A frustrating watch, but it was clear to see that Jose did not want them playing explosive; quick football. We weren't looking for 3,4,5 goals here; it was about getting the 3 points in a controlled manor without taking risk.
Thinking about it, I think this is similar to the Wembley game we won 1-0 at the death with Eriksen. Burnley were fine wasting and blocking and finally we broke through.

Arguably, this was the tougher win, Burnley were so organised in defence, our first shot on goal was the goal itself. Breaking through the lines with Burnley is very hard work.

Sadly I think Chelsea will be able to stretch their defence more with their attacking options but if Burnley get the first goal in a game, it will take a lot of work to turn the game around.

When looking at losses you often consider the fine margins, they were there last night. The handball deflection on Wood that Dier got away with, the Kane clearance, the intelligent movement and header of Son to get us over the line. We could easily be lamenting another draw or loss if not for these moments going our way.

The only thing I would say is that if we had conceded we were at least better equipped to react with Reguilon, Bale and Vinny as attacking options.

Also being able to change Ndombele for GLC allowed us to manage the game out from the midfield and that could have been the difference against West Ham too. We have a squad now and that gives me some genuine sense of hope for the season.

e) Team choice

You must be joking he never jumps to head the ball and unless he can run with a player who his slightly ahead and can do a slide tackle he can’t tackle. Gets beaten too easily fir a big man.

He made some important tackles and broke up play too in a few key moments. I get that people want to see our sexy players all the time but Jose and the team got this one spot on. It was 100% not our fault the game was crap. This was an impressive performance and result.

We got the job done but was it really an impressive performance as you say?

good win, but we lacked to ability to move the ball forward fast on the counter (allowing them to pack their defence) we also lack clever players who can find that defence cutting pass

We have been better at fast break attacks, or transition as we have to call it now, than any other team in the league, and Kane is an absolute master at defeating defences with one pass.

Burnley set up to stop us doing exactly this, and they are decent at it. They were on Son with 2, sometimes 3 players as soon as a break was on.

Agree on all apart from Davies over regie there. Think we should have started Regie just gives more then davies going forward, much better crosses in too. Davies lost the ball quite a bit and gets done over defensively a few times. Great at LCB but still would go for Regie at LB...

I think Mourinho picked Davies at left back for his heading ability at set pieces. He mentioned in his post match interview that he thought about bringing regullion on for Davies in the second half but didnt want to lose Davies heading ability. So I’m assuming that’s why he started him.

I think Jose is worried about Ndombele getting tired and Gio getting injured; so he's decided to rotate them as the attacking mid spot alongside 2 holding mids.
If it means they both stay injury free, and therefore in some big games we can play them together, Jose will feel vindicated.

However, I'm personally not convinced by Sissoko starting in the PL. He's definitely lost a lot of his athletic ability since his injury last season, and he was never talented with the ball at his feet. Should be dropped.

I never want sissoko in the team but I think hojbjerg performs better with him in it than winks. Getting another strong, athletic but actual footballing midfielder during January is a must. It will get so much more out of this team. It really is the missing piece to push us on even further. Unfortunately I doubt we will be able to but it is what Mourinho should be pushing for.

Yes, occasionally.... but I'd never have the temerity to expect the quality or outcome of the match be catered to my needs or demands!

When they say 'it's a terrible/great game for the Neutral' who are they catering to? The only fans in any given game who GENUINELY care about the result are the two sets of fans of the clubs playing, plus any fans of clubs for whom the result directly affects them... and of course, each clubs direct rival, who just want them to lose!

Anyone else who cares not a bit about the result shouldn't even get a mention about what result to expect, or what type of game would 'please them'.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for alleviating the pressure by watching two clubs for whom I have no affinity for, slugging it out, and seeing their fans go through 90 minutes of torture.... but I wouldn't expect 'a mention'
....it is a genuine bugbear of mine that every time a game either has goals galore, or the opposite, and fails to live up to expectations, the cliche is thay it's always the 'neutral' for whom it was a great/lousy game for....
Why is that? Is it cos in any given game, more neutrals are watching than actual fans with a vested interest in the result? I'm not so sure....

Anyway, we won tonight, it was a terrible spectacle, but fuck it, we won, so a great game for Spurs fans everywhere, not so for Burnley fans!
I couldn't care less what the 'neutrals' thought of it!
No doubt they'll be tuning into Bangkok Utd vs Shanghai Rangers at 3am, to be further disappointed by the emptiness and neutralality of their support!
I shall never use the expression again☺️

Love wins like this tonight...absolute rugby team thinking they can push over a bunch of overpaid spice boys...think again Burnley, we play with stitches and bandages on our heads these days...💪🏻💪🏻
I know what you mean.... it's games like these on which reputations are earned!

Like it or not, we HAVE been pushover in the past.... when things don't go our way, we fold, and have done at Burnley plenty of times before (remember the Poch meltdown post match....?) That weirdly felt like the catylist that started his downward spiral with us I think.... he/we weren't quite the same after that!

Plus that's TWO consecutive games we've had Terry Butcher finish the game! (Höljberg, and last night, Toby!!)

You gotta love it!!!
