But you can't play someone as the deepest midfielder simply because he is press resistant if he is also unwilling to defend for 90 minutes with full concentration.
We're top of the league using this tactic but for it to work we need a double pivot of positionally aware, very hard working midfielders. Ndombele simply can not play that role.
Credit to Palace then, Roy shut down our most dangerous tactic.Son and Kane barely touched the ball going forward in the 2nd half.
Our midfield lacks creativity when Ndombele is not on his day......
That's exactly what I mean. Yes, he had a shit game, but when he did go up, there wasn't a clear understanding between him and the rest of the team. Same applies to a lot of the team.
That's at least in part because we don't spend enough time practicing good combination play higher up the pitch.
For those of you that keep coming with this boring narrative of "Why did we sit back 2nd half"
Firstly, we didn't, we started the half on the front foot, we got slowly pushed back and last 15 decided to tough it out.
If we had been caught kamikazee on the break by Eze or Zaha going for a 2nd goal, you would all be giving it "why didn't we just shut up shop"
Sometimes, its nobodies fault, sometimes the opposition has a good day and gets a say.
See Fulham vs. Liverpool at the moment.
I've not heard the post match interview yet.I think Jose 'predicted' as much in his post match interview... he saw it coming too!
It's one thing to predict it... it's another to do anything about it!
we ALL saw it coming.... and yet we can't ALL be Spurs managers!
Good point! (yours, not ours!)Dunno why some people are blaming the result on this alleged world class performance by Palace's keeper. In most matches, you don't get a goalkeeping error on the scale of Kane's goal. If their keeper had really had a world class game, Spurs would've lost all three points.
He made all the simple passes he has. He isn't going to open up defenses with his passes or create anything. That's not what he is there for. Eze and zaha chances were not fully down to sissoko alone.
Way i’m feeling after this result you’ll count your teeth off the floor lad!![]()

No but it's one we didn't finish off. Today we never tried to finish it off. If it was a big team we were against then I'd say yes let's sit on thw the lead but not against palace. But surprised Hugo didn't come out and punch that too.Newcastle had a late flurry; but we didn't sit back against them...
It won't last long... you wait... Fulham will 'bottle it'!
