Manager Jose Mourinho

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If Mourinho played swashbuckling football like Leeds and at the end threw results like against West Ham, would some take it?

Beautiful footy, come 3rd, go again for a few years. Would that do you? Or would you take eye boiling football like Liverpool in the final if it means winning?

Isn't that what we got under Redknapp?

People loved those times didn't they?

I think what most people want is a team that can win games but aren't AFRAID to attack.

We don't have to be the team that plays the best football in the league - but it would be nice to see some kind of football. Mourinho HAS had us playing good football at times and we've looked great doing it. Which is why you get people asking for it more, especially when the "Win at all costs" style has seen us... well..... lose?

Fair enough mate

We seem to be at an impasse

I have watched Spurs this season and probably a lot longer than you

You’re slagging off PL sides such as Leicester who are quite good

I never mentioned keeping the ball at all so please retract that accusation

However I did say that we have players who are just not consistent enough for us and can’t be relied on

Such as Aurier
Brain fart and responsible for their first goal through a penalty for a challenge only he can explain

Such as Sissoko
WTF was he thinking about just bending over for their second goal rather than challenge Vardy physically his inferior

Such as Bergwijn
Missed two absolute sitters against the Dippers
Clear cut chances most decent strikers would have buried

Such as Kane
Missed an absolute sitter too, normally a player of his calibre would score in his sleep

So yes blame the manager not the players

That’s what I was getting at

I’m not saying that Jose was blameless but this witch hunt against him by melters who never wanted him here in the first place and were silent when we were top is ridiculous

I never thought that you’d be one of them

We should be grateful he’s our manager
Fair enough.

I’m not trying to crow, I will anoint him king of the Lane should he bring success to us, and I have hope that he can with his ability to navigate the big games, which has remained consistently impressive throughout his career.

I have severe reservations about his ability to construct a ball-playing football team or to resist his rather risk-averse tactical nature, and I do worry that will impact our league form.

I’ll be here week in, week out to praise / criticise him based upon what I see like I would with any manager or player.

I'm far from being Mourinho Out, but I do wonder if he's not a good fit.

With the funds to build whatever team he wants he has built solid sides that can squeeze out results consistently enough to win trophies. With us he has to make do with Sissoko and Dier.

I believe Jose can build a squad with whatever level of budget. He just needs the trust from the board, full support/backing, time to do it and have fans behind him.

It’s not easy as it is to build a squad. ontop of that to build a squad with relatively speaking little money. he’s also trying to build the mentality around the club as well. We’re also trying to get results while building towards it.

The moment where he feels that he can’t get us there whether it’s from lack of backing to build the squad that we need, the lack of support if he needs from the board regarding player power, the lack of support from the fans, we will all see the beginning of the end.

What I worry about is him losing patience quickly if he doesn’t start winning silverware soon. This guy hates losing and won’t stay in a job that he can’t produce results.

I’m enjoying the experience of having him here. Just brings with him everything about where we are as a club. Our fanbase grew because of him. We have more attention brought on to us. Together with that comes the expectation to win silverware. So, all this talk about playing fancy football but not winning being ok... I do think it’s no longer ok because we’re trying to get to the next level at this stage of our club’s journey.

Me too

Enjoy the ride
And the trophies 🏆

I just watched city cruise past goons. What I see is a team with a desire to win the ball back. Plus what they do is try to win it just inside their own half with their midfielders or the attackers do it. Fernandinho done it a few times and his 35. The midfielders don’t drop so deep joins the back 4. Whereas our CM drop into back 4 making it a 6 and the rest of the tram dont press. Now if Fernandinho can do it surely sissoko can? Just move the CMs up out if the back 4 and tell they to press from there that way if they win the ball they are closer to the forwards to counter. How many times we see son pick the ball up just outside our own box and try to run with it. Alternatively we try to past it out from their deep in our own half but bcos the oppo his high up they can press us and win the ball back unless we hit it long. This has been what’s happening recently in losing the ball so cheaply when we have it deep in our own half winning the ball on the edge of our box. City a passing possesion team work harder than we do in winning the ball back. So we need to A) work harder and put extra effort to win the ball back and B) get there CMs to press and try to win the ball back a bit higher up around the centre circle line in our half and not at the edge of our box.
But we don’t want to win the ball back as desperately as City do, certainly not if it means getting out of shape. We’re happy not to have the ball. Urging us to desperately win the ball back misses the point.

Honestly 5th and Carabao would be a decent season. I know the club would prefer top four to a trophy, and usually I would too, but we badly need to get rid of this trophy drought.

No top four and no trophy would be enough for the sack, especially after a decent start to the season and posturing like title contenders.

I just want to see us upgrade Sissoko. I feel he is the key piece limiting Jose ball from being more effective. Someone who can help break the lines a bit and put shots on target. I fully understand why he starts currently- he is the second best holding-ish CM we have- but he offers nothing in attack and can't operate as the lone CDM. We really owe it to Jose, Kane and Son to put some money towards an upgrade THIS winter xfer window.

That and a CB, RW and sub striker. Maybe even a RB.

I'd love Europa. Would get us a trophy and get us CL qualification.
Not sure how popular this will be with others in the forum, but I'd prioritise Europa over PL in latter stages of season.

I'd love the Europa too.
I think if we can find some form we could have a real chance of winning the Europa and the EFL Cup which would be a good season for me.
The key is getting some spark out of some of the squad. We can't continue to rely solely on Son and Kane, we need more from the rest of the attackers.

I’m all for Jose and he can play any way he chooses, but if it’s going to be this negative football then he has to win.
The West Ham game was disgraceful and Jose should have been the one to manage a draw at Liverpool, a win in the Palace game and at least a draw at home to Leicester.

Spot on. He's decent as somebody to throw in in the big games to keep us solid but we're desperate for somebody in midfield that can take the game by the scruff of the neck and get us playing. A Modric type - is that too much to ask?

We let them have all of the ball that they wanted against us...we still beat them...next...

Sounds like we're still looking for a centre back in January. On the face of it another defensive move, but as others have said, it could be the opposite.

Mourinho only went super defensive post West Ham because he saw that our CBs aren't good enough. He felt he had to set up the whole team to protect them, even if it cost us a few goals going forward. With better centre backs, he can be a bit more adventurous.

I like this idea, and reminds us that there is a plan (Mou was after a CB in summer). Hojbjerg is a good example of how strengthening defense (in midfield), allows our attacking players more freedom. Hopefully a top quality centre half can have a similar effect.
