Why do some people think Dier is better thsn Alderweireld? Cannot be true

Agreed. Strange.

Dier has been woeful when not counted on to win headers in a low block. He's had one or two great games but that's more system based than ability.

He's never too far away from woeful position, gifting the opponent a penalty/goal or giving the ball to the opposition with his stupidly bad passing ability.

I see January's Transfer Window as being :

1. Selling or otherwise 'losing' from the squad Gedson, Gazzaniga and Rose to save wages.

2 Potentially selling Dele to raise cash and free up wages plus selling an overseas trained player to buy either a CB (Milenkovic ?) or CM (Sabitzer ?).

Most likely overseas trained players to move ? Aurier, Sanchez, Sissoko, Moura, Lamela (one of last 2 could leave without being replaced as we are well stocked at AM

3 We need to sell an overseas player to free up a space for Rodon in the EL squad

4 Maybe Harvey White and Jack Clarke out on loan if Mouhino is not going to use them more in 2nd half of season.

5. We could buy an HG player as there is room in the squad - but few candidates are good enough, last summer I would have taken Eze or Jarrod Bowen but neither available now.

I've seen Milenkovic a few times and initial thoughts are I'm pretty happy to see us linked again. Quicker than Skriniar, beast in the air, goal threat and decent on the ball. Every time I've seen him the game has been dull as dirt though, so I find it kind of hard to judge how good he really is 🤔
He'll fit right in

Best Dier game for me is still the Real game where Toby went down I believe and he shuffled back from midfield to CB.

Edit: in terms of working as a CB in a high intensity game plan

Who do you suggest?

I can't imagine anyone good will be available in January.
I know you like Kessie.

Kessie would be very high on my wish list, along with his partner at Milan, Bennacer (different but I like both), and I do like Sabitzer even though he's not an orthodox 6, he's versatile and tactically smart, but if that wasn't going to happen (maybe even if it is because I think we need more than one and can ship out both Sissoko and Winks) and we did want to strengthen CM in January, there might be some decent "potential" available from Ligue 1, which is in a bit of a mess because of their TV deal going awol.

I can't believe we walked away from Sangare (raw but buckets of upside potential) at 9mEur, who's now at PSV. And even if he'd not have panned out we'd been in good shape to not lose much at all, might still have even made some regardless.

People like Bissouma and Anguissa have caught the eye this season, and there's a bunch of the next young Bissouma's and Anguissa's knocking around Ligue 1. Players like Camavinga, Kamara (Marseille), Tchouameni, Fofana (Monaco), Guimaraes (Lyon), Thuram (Nice) and there's probably a couple of others - None are polished, finished articles, I'm not convinced all of them will be ultimately good enough for top level, but I think all would available for pretty reasonable fees (some more than others) would represent good value (risk/reward) punts who we could sign if we couldn't get the likes of Kessie, or hopefully as well as.

There's other players dotted around other leagues that are interesting too, Diawra (Roma), Haidara (RBL) Mwepu (RBS - haven't seen enough of him myself to have a rock solid opinion) all worth thinking about - all would be upgrades on Sissoko as a CM.

There are still the Ezes and Bowens of last summer currently available in the Championship. Our scouts need to work harder

Is gedson part of the prem squad? If so we can swap him with sabitzer
He's in the unlimited U21 group in PL squad. He has no spot to give.

It's not Dier is better, but Dier profile is easy to work with, plus the age factor.

What I meant by profile is Dier overall is a well rounded center half, and arguably has room to grow. With Toby, he has flaws in his aerial ability and his pace at his age naturally would keep dismissing each passing seasons. It's even within expectation, that Toby may have a sharp decline in near future. Therefore, when we go into the market for ONE new starting center half, we would try to look for someone who would be complement to our younger CB, in hope of getting a bit longer term partnership.

It’s insane how woeful his passing is. It’s almost like he was never a midfielder!

Josh Dasilva. Max Aarons. Adam Armstrong. All homegrown players that will be great signings for a PL club. Think Aarons is very underrated, will be a Reguilon level player. Dasilva looks high class. Armstrong reminds me of Danny Ings - strong, quick and well rounded technique. Would love us to go for either of the first two in particular.

Adama Traore is struggling for games at Wolves. I remember our half time talk last season against them was how to contain him. Boxer body with pace and skills. Rare breed. Worth a punt with Dele money

With the current manager, the way we play and our sell-to-buy policy, I expect very little from this club going forward.

'Best days' (2015-2019) are well behind us, prepare yourselves for another decade(s) long of mediocrity.

Ranked number 19.

“This kid De Roon is phenomenal, his work-rate is phenomenal,” Mourinho remarked back in 2017 after a game in which his Manchester United team had just played against Middlesbrough.
