I think the 1970 game at Stamford Bridge was the wettest game I ever went to. Didn't stop raining all day, there were 61,000 there that day. Got home Happy, but soaked through. Had to change clothes when I got in, including socks and pant

Oxford away 1986 was my wettest away day,FA Cup -drew 1-1. Drove back to London in my boxer shorts-not a pretty sight I assure you.

That's the top pf the table clash in Nov. '77.
Neil Whatmore between Skip and JH.
He scored that last minute leveller at WHL in the Cup game two months later, after Glenn's wonder goal from the touchline. That made it 5 years on the bounce that we were knocked out in the 3rd round.
Worthington was a quality player. Never forget his famous goal against Ipswich.

Not the FA cup replay under floodlights?

The 2-2 game against Palace in '77.
That's Sansom no.3 before he went to the Goons "to win things" Ha!! How did THAT turn out then?

Also Jim Cannon. And Terry Fenwick in background I think.

I saw a lot of Palace games in the 1970's as they were my local team. Malcolm Allison combed the country for the best kids and a few years later under Venables they'd won the Youth Cup and got promoted 3rd to 1st Div.

Worth checking out Saturdays big match revisited on itv2. Us v Chelsea in the big relegation battle at the end of 74/75 which includes an Alfie Conn cracker. Also has an interview with Stevie P after and its safe to say his interviews got better later in his career!
So watched it, and I was at the front of the Park Lane. Don't remember much of the actual game, but do remember how packed the terraces was (you could see the sway in the crowd in the highlights), thousands locked out. Very tense atmosphere, the importance of the game was felt by everyone.
You can see people smoking in the ground, and on the bench! No Health & Safety either, loads of boys watching the game, hanging from the floodlights.
Lilywhite shirts that don't look like advertising boards, no coloured boots, goalies in green and officials in black.
Stevie looked so young in the interview, but he had already played for six years at that stage. Pat Jennings was immense and Nutter Naylor had a great game in midfield (in my mind, I always thought he was a full back).
Thought it was funny that we sang YNWA - can't see that happening now.
Watched the rest of the programme - thought Alec Stock came over as a real old-fashioned gent. He was insistent that Fulham supporters would never be involved in bad behaviour. They featured a Second Division game between Norwich and Nottingham Forest - Martin Peters was playing and he scored.
Definitely worth a viewing if you can access it.

I see you that one, but the worst for me was against Oxford in the FA Cup in 1986. It was January, freezing cold and a completely open end, so no shelter whatsoever. I had about three layers, topped off with waterproofs, and I was still soaked by the end of it. We were 1-0 down and John Chedozie scored to get us the replay. It was that cold that when we cheered the goal, you could see everybody's exhaled breath, it was like a fog had descended on us. Uncomfortable journey home, didn't thaw out until I got home to a hot bath. Thank goodness we won the replay.

Also one of the Hinshelwood brothers, and possibly Chatterton to the left.

From a feeling cold perspective, Leeds away in Dec. '81 was horrendous!

Only just realised how much Paul Walsh resembles Gareth Ainsworth.... especially in that hat!

Who knew Ossie once played for Stoke?!

The Chanticler if I'm not mistaken??
Many a Bar Mitzvah took place there!!

Is Mackay wearing a beanie hat on his broken foot? (and who else thought the kids was smoking at first glance?)

Where to start.... TOO many 'Caption competition' possibilities for one reply!
I'll kick things off with; "The Batsman's Holding, the bowler's Willey!"

So not much has changed then....?
