Blimey, Big Sam before he was big
Davy Jones before he joined the monkees :fingers:Blimey, Big Sam before he was big. Only remember Alan Gowling and Neil Whatmore from the rest of that squad.
For Frank W - Yes. Scored one of the greatest ever goals in that team.Obviously love any photo that includes Mr P, recognise Jimmy Holmes and a blurry Glenn behind him (?), and Frank Worthington - is he playing for Bolton? Late 70s?
Reminds me of the crowd outside the church I made my 1st Holy Communion in.
Loved Frank Worthington as kid, along with Tony Currie.Yes, a very gifted player but a bit of a maverick and didn't get the recognition he deserved. That goal is one of the classics.
Yes, totally agree with that first statement, great players who would have been wonderful in a Spurs shirt. My other favourite non-Spurs players from that era were Rodney Marsh (know he turned out to be a bit of a dipstick as a pundit, but he was a fabulous player on his day), Alan Hudson and Eddie Gray.Loved Frank Worthington as kid, along with Tony Currie.
I used to imagine them two in a Spurs line up when things weren't so great for us at about that time.
Superstars on the TV was a great memory if you were a Frank or Keegan fan.
Jesus, I'm getting old.
From a getting wet perspective, Pompey away - first game of the 05/06 campaign was definitely worse.Still the best thread on this (Or ANY football) forum!
I, like a 'few' others on here, (ahem,Nutter-Naylor
Mrs Perryman ) am definitely too old to even think of this as "Retro"!!
But yes.... good memories.... I don't think I've ever been as wet at a football match.
I've been drier in the bath!!
Feels like just the other day....!
Can you imagine the England team that should have played from a window of around 73-83. Id have played all of the ballers and one bloke to move the piano.Yes, totally agree with that first statement, great players who would have been wonderful in a Spurs shirt. That's the top pf the table clash in Nov. '77.Obviously love any photo that includes Mr P, recognise Jimmy Holmes and a blurry Glenn behind him (?), and Frank Worthington - is he playing for Bolton? Late 70s?
The 2-2 game against Palace in '77.
That looks like Palace are the opponents there. Gerry Francis in the background..?![]()
Brighton 3 Tottenham 1 in April 1979 at the Goldstone Ground in Division 2.
Away to Millwall. FA Cup 3rd round in '67.
That's the old New Cross stadium in the corner.
I've been swerving the big match revisited, as they only seem to show us when we lose! Going to watch that right now - 'bye bye Chelsea, Chelsea bye bye', courtesy of The Bay City RollersWorth checking out Saturdays big match revisited on itv2. Us v Chelsea in the big relegation battle at the end of 74/75 which includes an Alfie Conn cracker. Also has an interview with Stevie P after and its safe to say his interviews got better later in his career!
I only have very vague memories of 74/5 but we seemed to lose quite a lot! A team with a load of once great players like Knowles, Beal, Kinnear that look past their best. Jennings and Stevie P were both quality though.I've been swerving the big match revisited, as they only seem to show us when we lose! Before the game it was all sun and blue skies. Then just before kick off the heavens opened, and it poured down non-stop the whole game.
I think the 1970 game at Stamford Bridge was the wettest game I ever went to. Didn't stop raining all day, there were 61,000 there that day. Got home Happy, but soaked through. Had to change clothes when I got in, including socks and pants. From a getting wet perspective, Pompey away - first game of the 05/06 campaign was definitely worse.

I have the same memories of our decline. Can't recall if Chivers had gone by then or a year or two later.I only have very vague memories of 74/5 but we seemed to lose quite a lot!
