Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We bounced back because we got incredibly lucky. Vertonghen, Lloris, Eriksen, Dembele, Son, Kane, we spent about £70m on them and they all turned out world class together. We spent £60m on Dembele‘s replacement and he’s been shit. The chances of us getting lucky like that again are exactly zero.

We already have a weak defence and midfield, take Kane out and there is almost nothing left to work with. We’d be putting the future of the team in Levy and Hitchens hands and they will let us down as they always do.
After we lost Berba we still managed to put a decent team together.

With the Bale money, the only buy that paid off was Eriksen.

I do agree that there’s a chance we might become a mid table team if we make bad decisions but it didn’t work out that way in the past, and what I am trying to say is this time also it doesn’t have to work out that way either.

The only way I can understand the timing of such an announcement being authentic is if one of two things have happened.

1). There was a 'gentleman's agreement' between Harry and Daniel before the start of last season that he would stay but if it was an unsuccessful one then he would be allowed to leave provided an agreed minimum fee figure was offered by another club.
The thing that best fits the available facts in my mind is that there was a gentleman's agreement last year from Levy to sell Kane for a certain fee this summer (we know Levy does this, he did it with Eriksen), an offer has come in for that fee that Kane and his team are aware of, and the club are now telling Kane they plan not to accept and are trying to persuade him to stay.

Jesus is always better playing off the wing.

Not saying I am pro swapping him for Kane. But he would be a more apt Son replacement than a Kane one.

Exactly. I see him as part of a front three along with Son (if he's even at the club next season) and a new striker, or someone playing off a striker. I think he's a good player and would be a good signing for us. He's not great but if he was he wouldn't even be a potential option. I just really don't think we're going to attract better players than Jesus without Kane and Champions League football to offer.

Gabriel Jesus would be an utter donkey here and under the circumstances would be the most hated footballer on planet earth.

It's a terrible idea and Jesus and his agent will know it.

It's a real problem that it is a cast-iron guarantee that whoever is the identified "Kane replacement" will be galactically, Torres-at-Chelsea horrendous next season. Striker is a really hard position to get right.

Agreed, not only will it be virtually impossible to bring in someone who could 1:1 replace him, I feel bad for whoever we do bring in because they will only ever be compared against Kane.

However much money we would get would be better spent spread across a number of players, not dropping a huge amount on one player. We'll need to figure out how to make up the goals and other playmaking he provides across multiple players, not just from one person.

He got injured in the first leg of the quarter final and was out until the final, and no im not blaming the loss on him, but he has had opportunities to win silverware here, and everyone who played in the final of them cups has to take some of the blame for us not winning surely?

Not just the Champions League.
Kane has failed to perform to his usual levels for FA & League Cup quarter and semi finals we have won too.

Other players have got assists, scored goals, been man of the match - but not Kane for whatever reasons, even when he played.

Nacer Chadli was a solid buy. And part of our turn around I think both him and Eriksen were sound investments. All the others....meh

So I was doing some digging through advanced stats and was surprised to see that Kane is in the 3rd decile for touches inside the opposition box this season, which means he's well below the average for forwards across Europe. He's in the highest decile (>90%) for most metrics that matter for an attacker, so the stat regarding touches in the box sticks out like a sore thumb.

The fact that Kane has maintained such a strong record of goals and assists regardless is a strong counterpoint to Sammy's insistence on focusing on conversion %s because it suggests that Kane has been very efficient with whatever service he's actually received into the box. In combination with xG it does also support my earlier hypothesis that Kane's unremarkable conversion % is the result of speculative shooting from outside the box or in otherwise unlikely scenarios.

We cant get a like for like replacement, we will just need to change the way we play and if Kane goes we must do all we can to keep son, if we lose them both we are proper fucked

Levy in many ways is a dick really, making an verbal agreement that he doesn’t intend to keep.

In many ways it’s understandable why Eriksen never renewed, he knew he wasn’t going to leave unless he ran down his contract because of how Levy is.

Like I said earlier, there is another option than the simple fucks off or stays. He goes to Citeh, signs a 3 year contract, wins 3 of everything, then comes back here to finish his days chasing trophies with Spurs having scratched the personal itch elsewhere.

To me, that's the all round best outcome
I remember Fulham being ridiculed by some when i was a kid, because thats what Alan Mullery did.Joined us, won a bit of silver and went back to his boyhood club.
is that what we've become? Naah,i'm with Goat,if he goes ,so be it.but stay gone.
It rarely works out too great when ex players come back anyway.Never the same.

Yeah. If Kane goes we should not be looking for a like for like. We should take it as a chance to full on revamp how we play. Anyone brought in as a like for like replacement will be held to a near impossible measuring stick. It would be much saner to build a new attacking system.
