Sounds like a load of bollocks from that guy. Skipp is just coming into his prime, was the best DM in the championship at Norwich and could go onto be one of the best DM’s in the league while we have no backup for Hojbjerg.

If we are selling/sold Sanchez, Dier, Toby going to be fucking light at the back even with 2 new CB’s so why would be loaning Tanganga unless we are buying 3 CB’s or heaven forbid we are keeping Sanchez and Dier.

You missed out regularly getting MOTM?

No one thinks it's pennies but in terms of paying an extra 5 million for a player who could make the difference, it is pennies
That's entirely dependent on available budget though isn't it?

We need more than just a CB, more than a few on here are adamant that we need 2. So we do the deal, pay an extra £5-10M just to "get it done" and our budget is £5-10M lighter.

We have a 2nd CB on our radar, who is of the requisite quality. The selling club is looking to sell him for, say, £30M. We can afford that from the budget, but we're also looking to bring in a striker (let's say Vlahovic) that the selling club want, reportedly, £60M for. Trouble is, we've just waxed an extra £5-10M getting the 1st deal over the line, so Vlahovic is now outside of our budget constraints, so we either try to negotiate the price down, or we go for a cheaper option, because that's all we can afford.

As I posted previously, we are not privy to the available budget for players, so we don't know how much there is available to spend, but if it's limited, then it makes sense to squeeze every penny out of the initial deals if it means that we are able to bring in another one of quality later on.

That £5-10M could mean the difference between getting a Vlahovic or getting a lesser striker.

A difficult one for sure but an elite CB is very hard to replace, we all know what cheap options can do for a team compared to the best one.

I think it’s more likely a high price for Romerio would affect the 2nd CB we buy rather than Vlahovic, we may keep Dier or Sanchez instead of getting a 2nd CB or change targets. But I would rather get our top target and keep Sanchez then buy two average CB’s.

I'd rather we get a top Centre back and an ok backup striker

Well according to Ally Gold and Valencia Yid it was a RB, 2 CB’s, a CF we want, no idea if that is true.

However if so I would take keeping Sanchez or Dier and getting just 1 CB like Romerio and also Vlahovic rather than bringing in 2 CB’s and if our budget is really crap than Romerio and an average striker.

Makes a change from people calling him "Romeo" I suppose

:nunolol:

Fun fact: "Romero" is Spanish for "rosemary".

I’m no Levy fan but surely Paratici is in the hot seat now when it comes to transfers and budgets. My understanding is that he has been allocated a sum to work within and that Levy is effectively stadium manager. Perhaps thats wrong or too simplistic but I think for now we should give Levy a break
Well if Baldy is not involved he has hired a negotiating clone

i suspect he is involved and our DOF won’t be around long , just like the other 3 times Levy tried it

Previous history tells us that the "back-up" striker thing just doesn't work. The player is on the psychological back foot right from the get-go. It sends the message: "We've got someone here that we think is better than you. When he goes, we might give you some game time but ultimately we don't believe in you and we'll be looking for someone better".

Doesn't that make a player feel loved and wanted?

agree but it's Romero not Romerio. It means rosemary in Spanish but I think it sortof means pilgrim too.
Anyway, Romero.

It’s why I wouldn’t mind Ings, can play both as Kane back up but also the wide forward role so can play with Kane and without.

I agree, I was just using the examples to illustrate a point though.

Virtually all of us are only interested in getting the best quality players available, but more than a few seem to think that we have an infinite budget. " Pay the extra £10M, pay the extra £5M, stop dicking about!" seems to be the standard response to any spurious news that "suggests" the negotiations aren't going swimmingly. Sign 3 players, and pay £5-10M over the odds, can feasibly mean that we've lost £15-30M that could go on another quality player. Then the screaming starts again because we didn't sign X needed player.

It's really not that difficult a scenario to reason through, but reason appears to be in short supply.
