Maybe. But he's a 22 year old we'd be playing mostly at RB who sees himself as a centre back. I just don't think 15-20 starts at right back mostly against crap ECL teams does much to help him learn about the positioning, decision making and ball use that he needs to develop to be a worthwhile CB for us. Next summer he'll be 23 going 24 and we could be in the same position with him. If we looked to be playing three CB's this year I'd see the situation differently. We have a max of 13 games in ECL, 6 in FA Cup, 5 in EFL Cup.
We should go deep in ECL, and one of EFL/ FA. So there's potential for him to start around 15 Cup games.
In the PL, Aurier wants to leave, and Tomiyasu may take a while to adjust to PL. Tanganga would be preferred to Doherty in games where the LW is pacy. So he should get around 5 starts in the PL too.
That's an estimated 20 starts this season, and he'd be able to use apparently the best facilities in the world to do Nuno's high intensity training. Surely that's quite a good situation for a youngster?
Last summer Juventus saw Romero as a dispensable player more or less, loaned him out with an option to buy of 16m. Now he's valued at 50m, Serie A defender of the year and Copa America winner. Starting games week in week out is so important for a player to develop and show his worth.
