Ex-Spurs Player Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Neither Skipp nor PEH is good enough to be the lone ball winner in a midfield trio - they need the other two CMs to be hardworking ball winners as well. The best system for either player is a dual pivot. But even as a lone DM, PEH is still currently far better than Skipp.

Playing GLC, or worse still Ndombele, in a dual pivot against any decent opposition is just asking to be ripped through the middle.

Our best formation at the moment is a 4-2-3-1 with both Skipp and PEH as the double pivot, with Skipp being the more aggressive/attacking one. PEH lacks the pace the recover if caught upfield.

Under Mourinho, PEH stayed back more often than not, and so I would suspect that his current adventurous form is either a leftover from the euros and/or instructions from Nuno

I agree and think our only real chance at success this season is by playing a Skipp-PEH double-pivot against the strongest sides. Gio, Dele and Ndombele should all be tried in the CAM role in front of that double pivot, but rarely ever together.

We have 3 cam, 2 cdm and Winks. Levy needs to stop shoehorning CAMs in CM and actually buy some new players, and sell ones we don’t need. Same at RW, where we have Moura , and he’s not even a real RW. We have at least 3 LWs though. Our squad isn’t balanced, and it’s not clear if Levy and Nuno understand that.

What the fuck is Paratici thinking watching all this, or is he high on Levy’s stuff as well?

in reply to bk_spur Paratici is a football conman, he is a bluffer, i could see it in the first few weeks from things he "said & did"
they say it takes one to know one I was a bluffer at work for 30 yrs so you can see it in the things he says and does

Today summed up his limitations. A very average player and should not be in the team every week.

Hate to say it but he's average.

That's it. He's not shit though. He does good jobs at times but we can't rely on him purely.

I thought he was average last season and still do. Better than some of the other shit we have had in midfield recently, but still not good enough really. Played like a headless chicken today.

Højbjerg makes Xhaka look like peak Busquets.

Adequate as a box to box mid.
Pedestrian as a holding mid/organizer.
IMO, he's most useful when high pressing similar to how Kante is used (high pressing) in the opponent's third with a holding mid (Jorginho) behind sitting deep.

🤡

Oh he scored a goal so now must be a great player right? He's ok, more than happy for him to be a squad player, he's better than Winks or Sissoko, just think we need better in the longterm if we want top 4 again anytime soon. Thats judged on his time at Southampton and 13 months with us.
He is good for where we are right now...but we need and aspire to better.

Suppose he has outscored Kane in the PL this season.

actually thought he was one of our better players last season, made a few passes that cut through the opposition midfield and defence and looked pretty solid across the pitch.

Not sure I get all the hate. Like most of the team so far this season he's looked off the pace, yesterday was a better game for him

Accept he is a #8 and best with the scope to roam, press and join in the occasional attack and he'll be fine.

Just like anyone else in our MF; a bit of consistency in terms of the system and personnel around them and their performances will start to reflect this.

Whilst we are scrapping around trying to manage a loss of identity/ethos and also lacking preferable players; I"m perfectly happy with a Skipp/PEH combo making us rugged and hard to bully.

I'll be honest. I don't think Hojbjerg has been that good basically since the turn of the year.
He had a lot of poor games around February time and I liked him in that defensive destroyer role but recently he's looked quite weak in the tackle and some bad closing down etc.

I prefer him in the CDM role. What does he do really at CM? His passing/dribbling isn't as good as say Lo Celso's.
He was very good at CM yesterday though ;)

Skippy is going to build yellows quickly though. He's going to miss a few games through suspension at least. What's the plan for that? I mean, he's one away from a suspension already.

Hojbjerg has played every single minute of league play available since he joined last year with a rotating cast of miscreants, maligners, malcontents including Gedson, Winks, Sissoko, Ndombele, Lo Celso, and Dele and all the sudden last week people were suggesting he was the problem!

He’s obviously not Modric, Carrick, Dembele level, but my god where would our midfield be the last two seasons without his steadiness? Put some more talented and reliable players around him and let him focus on the hard work that he’s good at. He’s not even a top 15 problem with our squad at the moment.

He's not the problem, but he isn't the solution either, in my opinion. Not technically good enough to make up for a lack of athleticism and not a good enough athlete to make up for a lack of technical skill.

He is really the definition of an average player, but people have way over-rated him because of the below average players (Winks, Sissoko) that he has replaced.

Can't see us finding another Modric or Carrick anytime soon, but I'd settle for a Wanyama.

I totally agree with you but he is a good leader and as he has shown for Denmark put some talent and willing players around him he will lead them to the promise land.

Maybe we can get a veteran CDM to help out in the rotation? Dier or Cuti might be worth trying there if we get in a pinch too. I know Dier is slow, but we are thin and I’m digging for ideas…
