Neither Skipp nor PEH is good enough to be the lone ball winner in a midfield trio - they need the other two CMs to be hardworking ball winners as well. The best system for either player is a dual pivot. But even as a lone DM, PEH is still currently far better than Skipp.
Playing GLC, or worse still Ndombele, in a dual pivot against any decent opposition is just asking to be ripped through the middle.
Our best formation at the moment is a 4-2-3-1 with both Skipp and PEH as the double pivot, with Skipp being the more aggressive/attacking one. PEH lacks the pace the recover if caught upfield.
Under Mourinho, PEH stayed back more often than not, and so I would suspect that his current adventurous form is either a leftover from the euros and/or instructions from Nuno
I agree and think our only real chance at success this season is by playing a Skipp-PEH double-pivot against the strongest sides. Gio, Dele and Ndombele should all be tried in the CAM role in front of that double pivot, but rarely ever together.
We have 3 cam, 2 cdm and Winks. Levy needs to stop shoehorning CAMs in CM and actually buy some new players, and sell ones we don’t need. Same at RW, where we have Moura , and he’s not even a real RW. We have at least 3 LWs though. Our squad isn’t balanced, and it’s not clear if Levy and Nuno understand that.
What the fuck is Paratici thinking watching all this, or is he high on Levy’s stuff as well?
