I don’t understand this angle. Didn’t UEFA agree to the cancellation/postponement before the match? Like, how do you agree that day and now come back and say “we’ll you had 13 players and should’ve fielded a team, so you forfeit”. That’s just a ridiculous position.

“We were unable to reschedule, so you have to forfeit, because we’ve now decided you should have played the original game”.

UEFA logic.

Even if we won this thing, no one is going to give us any credit for winning a trophy. What Rodgers said the other day about not even knowing what this competition is, is how everyone feels, including our players based on their performances.

Getting controversially chucked out of this thing and thus preventing the obvious Tottenham banter that would happen if we lost is not a bad solution. Get more full weeks of training for Conte to work with the players and still a lot to play for in three completions. It’ll be better in the long run.

Rodgers is a prick

And I guess there’s a good lesson for teams going forward. If a club gets Covid and can’t play, just refuse every date to reschedule and claim the win. I’m sure that won’t be an issue in the CL knockouts or anything like that.

Does anyone have any doubt that Rennes are just being twats as the match is meaningless to them and they're just feeling "I'm alright Jack".

If Rennes needed the win, they'd be bending over backwards.

I'm suprised the whole "but it's our winter break" bullshit washes with UEFA tbh.... Pretty sure other european clubs honour European cup fixtures outside of their domestic seasons.

Rodgers was just being a petulant sulk.... It's his job to know the ramifications of their exit and you can bet he knew damn well all along.

whereas i would have been happy to win this i thought stupidly we would get by the first stage with any squad selection i have no real issue with being thrown out it is just cutting out the inevitable loss which was defo on the cards .

I don't get why this is such a problem for everybody... I mean it's inconvenient, yeah... but why are Rennes being such dicks about it? We got covid. This type of crap has happened a lot and will happen again most likely. Why do we get booted out of a cup for doing the right thing? They'd probably declare war if we played and they got infected and went home to France with it...

They wouldn’t win though.

Hopefully the first and last time a big club like Spurs take part in this competition meant for teams unlikely to get a taste of European football via the real competitions.

Cause they want to win the competition and we are a legit threat.

Why is everyone up in arms when we clearly had 13 players without Covid

Yep .. I hate to say it but if those are the rules and we were capable of fielding a side, we can't really complain too much. People can say the rules aren't fair but the alternative would be re-arranging every game whenever a side were hit, where's the new line drawn?

It's all a bit ludicrous but that's the reality of this pandemic and we've just been a bit unlucky. People either need to cope with the current rules or accept no football again for a good while, because this sort of thing is gonna happen to other sides and fixtures can't just be re-arranged every single time.
