Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The guys you mention all can cross the ball into the box and contribute with goals. Two things Traore doesn't do. None of those guys mentioned are head down, dribble through the whole team themselves guys like Traore.

I think he wants a more attacking option than Royal and definitely think we could (and should) be looking for a RWB I just don't see Traore fitting with what Conte has used in the past. There are so many other options out there that fit the WB's that he has used more than Traore.

When you add in the previous links we have had with him and the fact that he is now reportedly available on the cheap the links seem to be much more Levy related than Conte related.
I don’t know, Traore in 19/20 with 4 goals and 9 assists on the Premier League is more goal involvements than Young ever had in a season since 2010/2011 at Villa. He’s never had more than 8 in a season since.

Moses has never had more than 7 goal involvements in a season and only one season over 3 goals.

Traore would definitely have to improve and adapt to his new position, but his career numbers are really quite similar to Young and Moses, except they’ve played a lot longer. I’m sure Conte backs himself to get a lot more out of Traore than others have.

Seems Conte has a fair idea who he has no interest in keeping;

Doherty
Rodon
Dele
Gollini (terminate loan)
Bergwijn
Clarke
Ndombele

Maybe also
Lo Celso
Tanganga

The club would need to give him something like an £80m transfer budget + money generated from player sales in a January window.. plus find willing buyers for our rejects and players prepared to come to us mid season..

I fear a lot of Spurs fans and maybe Conte himself will be disappointed with our business and squad once this January window closes. It's pretty unrealistic to expect the kind of player movement we need until the summer so I'm not going to get overly carried away with transfer window ideas and optimistic lists of top European players names. It's not possible and we can't blame Conte, Paratici, Levy, Hitchen or anyone when a miracle doesn't happen.

For me, if we can shift a few of the above players, bring in replacements for positions of the outgoing players, plus 2-3 extras (RWB, CM, FW) that ideally are starters rather than future potential players - we give ourselves a good crack at getting top 4.. and with that comes the lure & finances of Champions League football where the pool of players available to us dramatically increases in quality.

We aren't a million miles away form having a squad worthy of securing top 4, but what I'm reading from Spurs fans' hopes and expectations from a January window is ridiculous, playstation Fifa stuff.
Good post.

Personally I doubt we will get any more than 2 players in this window, and that’ll depend on movement out.

It’s the summer that I’ll be really interested in. That said, if Conte identifies someone that’s gettable now then let’s fucking do it.

The problem with that season is that is it a one off for Traore, so expecting that seems like a bit hopeful. And if you watch him play it isn't like is a surprise why he doesn't score he is terrible at shooting, makes awful decisions.

Again the part that you are skipping over is the zero links to Traore with Conte prior to him coming and multiple links to us and the fact he is cheap. Those are two big factors here. If they weren't present then I would say ok maybe Conte is changing his view on what a WB should be and think he can do something different with Traore, but when you have the combination of him not fitting what he likes and those links to us and Levy's style it seems unlikely that any Traore move is a Conte driven move and not a Levy driven move.

He didnt want to play under a prescribed manager. Been told what to do. Pep is that exact type of manager.
So fuck off with your trolling and go get a life

Yeah as I said, imagine genuinely believing you know more than Fabregas about how he was allowed to play under Pep

Dont worry about me, just just take a step back and ask yourself what you’re actually doing.

Denying Fabregas knows how he played football, in order to strengthen your argument that Conte restricts creative players.

Imagine actually doing that, and making yourself believe that Fabregas is lying or stupid and that you know more than he does about his time under Pep

I always like the idea that we will surprise teams and get some wicked deals if we pretend we aren't spending money.

As though Fiorentina will say to themselves "Well Ali Gold said Spurs had no money so better sell them Vlahovic for only 30m now."

We have seen in the past the reports are that we don't have money to spend and then we don't spend but maybe this is the time that the reports say that and we are actually tricking the world to get everyone for half price!

I think you might be disappointed too if you're expecting:

3 out
3 starters in
+ 3 squad players in

It's January.... We need to focus primarily on essential incoming players; even if that means delaying certain sales until the summer.

... it seems unlikely that any Traore move is a Conte driven move and not a Levy driven move.

I have been reading the Traore chatter wondering if people genuinely think this would be a 'Conte signing' rather than a club signing.
Wouldn't say "Levy" signing because that's pushing a personal agenda rather than the truth.

When Nuno was in charge I was convinced it's a manager wanting to bring in one of his former players, but at this point it feels to me like our clubs 'transfer team' invested a lot into the behind the scenes stuff required prior to signing a player, and are now probably pushing all of that data and research on Conte for him to sign off on the work they have already done.

Should we sign him and he succeeds, it will be regarded a Conte signing - but should he turn up playing like a classless bully, it will be a "Levy signing".

Conte is no ones mug, but he might give a Traore deal the green light because he could see him offering cover for Lucas or RWB more than no incoming player would - but I would rather we let Conte pick the players he feels are right for his system, and approach them rather than approaching Conte with a list of Bergwijn style names for him to pick from.

That's just me though, and I'm not a huge fan of the director of football role because although it's focus is centred around the club progressing regardless of managers coming or going - what we have right now with Conte is a very rare situation for us having one of world footballs current top managers, and personally would prefer we do throw caution to the wind and just give the man what he wants.

For all the love and respect I have for Poch, in my opinion he was a firm level below what we have with Conte and should it go tits up, we may not see another manager of this level agree to join us for decades.

If anyone can dribble past a crowd it's him. Tactics vs Adama tend to be to double mark him and then just foul him.

I doubt it. He isn't a guy that dribbles through crowded areas with quick feet.

He is better in space and being able to go past guys with his pace and strength to not get pushed off the ball.

The best tactics against Traore is let him run and he will eventually run himself into a turnover.

Yeah we'll just have to wait and see.

I genuinely don't know what to make of Traore. His 2019/2020 was really good and he was good in the championship. Other players always praise him and seem to hate playing against him. Obviously he's had a tough two seasons in terms of final product, but Wolves have also been the worst non-relegation team going forward in the league the last two seasons. 13 goals in 18 this season 35 in 38 last year. Dreadful attacking team.

I get the sense that top managers think there's a lot of talent there that is being misused, but then again who knows, he's a unique player in all aspects. I can't really think of a comparison past or present.

He has good footwork too, if it was just athleticism, Sissoko would be a good dribbler.

The best tactics against Traore is let him run and he will eventually run himself into a turnover.
But no one does this; he's always double marked and fouled constantly.
