Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Baldy needs to be careful if Conte walks, ( admittedly he toed the party line , saying not just transfers needed). However fans turned on Levy and he sacked Nuno and managed to buy time with Conte, but we are paying champagne prices for a light ale team. We are a relatively apathetic fan base, Levy has had an easy ride considering 1 trophy , (the least valuable trophy ) in 21 years. Credit where it’s due , I have to acknowledge a CL final, but he has overseen a cataclysmic fall since then rather than build on it.

The issue for Baldy will be , energy prices going through the roof, inflation on nearly all goods rising steeply. Households are getting squeezed which is obviously not Levy’s fault, but as things get tight many fans will think is the financial stretch worth it for a club not interested in being competitive.

If you look how deep they went into the waiting list for season ticket renewals last season keeping Conte is imperative. As I said we are a largely apathetic fan base , I don’t envisage West Ham style protests , I could see people saying “ Nah sorry no interest “ come renewal time though and plenty of them. The waiting list is no longer deep, well not deep with people willing to commit to massively expensive season tickets

We are now at a fork in the road, how many of us trust Levy to take the correct route? Even if he does, it will be a long road as he has taken so many wrong turns in the last few years .
Excellent post, echoes my thoughts entirely. The obvious question to ask then is: will Spurs break with their well established fiscal policy or will we spend to accumulate? I guess the key is, how many players does Conte want over the next two windows?

Yep him and Bissouma are proper shit...Best leave them well alone. You missed the boat on Locadia...could of had him for Nought!
If you advocate him so strongly you should know about his pending rape case. If - I repeat IF - he's found guilty, well...

Adama or no Adama, 20-25m is fuck all in todays market, that’s like £7m back in 2013-2014. If we have gotten Conte and are not going to spend net £150-200m over this window and the summer conbined then we might as well forget it.

I also would be shocked if he came here without assurances to that type of level and if we back of of backing him he is off and you would suspect
levy and Paratici would know that.

When was the last successful transfer for Spurs?
Im guessing Hojberg or Reguilon or maybe Lucas Moura in 17/18
You should pop over to the thread titled Pierre Emile Hoijberge then come back and edit your question.

I brought a quote over for you from said thread, get you started

He reminds of someone you would find in the park shouting at ducks

Or there's this one
'Labradors are loveble no one ever called a Labrador a thundercunt'

I don’t see how the first two there can be considered successful

Lucas has been a fairly average player for most of his Tottenham career but has always given everything and has given us some memorable moments

So if you’re feeling charitable you could say Lucas

If we are going to be really honest though the last knock out transfer was probably Son back in 2015

No wonder we’re shite in 2022 , you could make the argument that we’re lucky not to be fighting relegation

How is it Levy over scouting come on John, money's been spent! Just badly

Emerson
Rodon
Bergwijn
Lo Celso
Ndombele

Doherty

etc etc
Both Ndombele & Lo Celso were strongly wanted by Pochettino. However likable he was ...his record in the transfer market was quite dismal actually.
Although I am not totally blaming Pochettino for this ... but he missed out on 3 defensive bargains during his time at Spurs: van Dijk, Maguire, Andrew Robertson.

yeh but Poch also wanted Toby and Waynama who he got and did brilliant as well as Mane and Grealish who he didn’t get but would have seriously improved us.

I want to know where the scouts are in all of this, it’s their job to assess, recommend and find players suitable for the club and the manager. Dele Alli is the last time we got a bargain.

I am as critical of the club transfer moves as anyone but Reguilon and Lucas were successful transfers. Not world beating, chest thumping moves but they were fine.

It doesn't mean our transfer moves have been good overall, but those two are fine moves. The fact they are 2 of our best 3 moves in the past 5-6 years is a problem though.

I am not sure that Ndombele would have worked out if Poch stayed but buying him in the summer and bringing in Jose two months later was about as bad a move as we could have made in terms of how Jose plays and how Jose treats players.

The last transfer that brought in a durable cornerstone starter for a CL-level team was Sonny which is now seven years ago.

The last transfer that brought in someone who had that level of performance for any length of time was Wanyama six years ago.

We haven’t signed a player who would get in our last WHL team since we rolled the wrecking balls.
