He was average last season

Edit: He's been average for the last 3.5 seasons.

Average in your opinion. He still won the Golden Boot, and also set up God knows how many of Son's goals. That's despite playing in a very average team.

When it comes to anything to do with Harry, you seriously need to have a word with yourself. Stop trying to be sammyspurs v2, as you're not just a troll like he is.

I am heeding it, 50 million is the going rate for somebody like Lampety, I don't like the market but that is the reality. You're prepared to take a risk but a medium one, I would go with high risk because

  1. We have a great manager who can improve him and nurture him
  2. 4th place is open, if we get it we can make that money back in the CL.
  3. The signing would give the team a lift and show we want to win trophies.
1. Agree, but you can't nurture or improve someone who is injured. And you don't pay £50m for someone with Lamptey's recent injury record.
2. Lamptey signing this Jan isn't the difference maker for top 4, especially given your point that he will be nurtured by Conte. It takes time.
3. Is Lamptey really the statement signing...? I don't see it.

I simply don't agree £50m is the going rate for a player like Lamptey. Is he good? Yeah, looks it, but £50m got City Cancelo (factoring in Danilo part exchange). It is a lot of money.
We would be paying for potential, which, when twinned with that injury record doesnt justify the fee in my eyes.

You are wasting your time talking to Levy's doppleganger this risk adverse nonsense is part of the reason we never kick on.
Apparently if they fell over and grazed their knee when they was nine it's a risk.
Risk aversion..? There were people worried about Sessegnon's injury record and GLC too before those deals went through too.

With good reason as it turns out...!

Easy to say when it isn't your own money, but I'd rather we didn't piss away more money thank you very much.

Forum is full of ranting about how disgraceful it is we didn't do proper homework on Ndombele, Gio & Sessengon, but here many of the same faces are queuing up to blindly make the same mistakes all over again cos it shows "ambition".

Wouldn't actually getting the big decisions right be far more of a significant warning shot to the rest of the league?

Agree. Sign more PEH’s. Might never tackle, compete or sprint, but never injured

Those able to understand nuance realise that the discussion was essentially about whether or not Lamptey would be "the right one" or whether of not his injury record ought to be a concern given such a high price-tag.

I love the prospect of us signing high quality players... Who wouldn't.

Besides apparently it doesn't represent a bar otherwise we wouldn't have Romero on our books.
Totally agree. This isn't a question of whether the player is wanted. More around the is he worth £50m point.

We don't have an unlimited budget so best to focus on plugging the areas we need at the right price, not spunking £50m on an injury prone prospect

Did I ever say we should adopt that approach? Clearly that isn't the point I'm making.
There are plenty of extremely talented players out there who haven't got a dubious recent injury record.
To address Lamptey specifically my opinion is £50m is crazy money. £20-£30m then perhaps, he clearly is talented. But the difference in price equates to another potential signing so it isn't a simple matter.

Really? I loved the guy but after the pass that led to the disallowed Sterling goal in the CL QF. I saw into his heart he’d given up on us. We may be now a convenience and that might work both ways or may not.

Big but if Antonio says yes, yes it is

We have a multi billionaire owner that has paid 30M for a 2BN asset. I would counter that we do (should) have an unlimited budget
