Player Rodrigo Bentancur

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Floundering around and got bypassed a lot in the first half.

Second half a little better, a few good recovering tackles and moments on the ball.

Clearly a massive step up in opposition today.

And what? 3 games in to his spurs career.

Long road till you can 'rate or hate' him in my view

I like him as he's brave on the ball.

Other players would look to get rid of it very quickly. He looks to play forward.

He compliments Hojberg really well.

We need to 100% make sure the next midfielder through the door us technically accomplished and like this lad offers an off the ball presence. It makes a huge difference. Winks gone then PHE and we can become a football team again.
yea he looks physically imposing out there which fucking helps. he can move quick for a bloke whos so big too, hes quite quick across 20 yards. nice to think that if they do get past bentancurs line of defence then they are met by romero, another aggressive south american hahaha lovely!

Winks doesn't play that pass that bentacur did to kulusevski leading up to the winner. Different levels and no fear to attempt and execute game changing passes that's the difference.

We saw both the best and the worst of him vs Man City. Some solid defensive moments and some good stuff in possession, but if Winks had given the ball away on the edge of the penalty box 3 or 4 times, as he did, there would've been calls for a lynching – and summer sale and whatnot - in the match thread...

Fingers crossed that was just him adjusting to the league and City putting Spurs under heavy pressure, but it is something that Juve fans have complained about, so I believe it's an area he needs to work and improve on. However, he's still an upgrade (hopefully a big one) on Winks as he reads the game well defensively, gets stuck in and shows passion, and also contributes offensively, whereas Winks does not seem to have the required confidence when in possession and off the ball he can be found ghosting around a bit.

I think a big difference is that (and I’m not Winks hater) Bentancur makes mistakes while also attempting things with positively impact play, like his pass into Kane in the build up to the first goal. He does things like this throughout the game. Winks will once every few games.

A midfielder who takes responsibility will always get more slack than one who doesn’t.

I also think Bentancur’s best work is off the ball, tracking runners, covering passing angles, bullying other players. He makes us difficult to play against, that’s his primary ability.

He's a good passer when he has time on the ball. Yesterday he gave the ball away often in dangerous situations.
If Winks had done similar even once he would have been crucified on TFC.
Jury still out for me on this one unlike his mate who I'm pretty sure will really help us.

winks does that even with wolves or norwich, even with no pressure.
with man city it's easy to make mistakes with the ball because they make a crazy pressing
apart that, let's consider another important thing: for bentancur was the third match with tottenham, in a different league and with different teammates

Really like Bentancur for reasons others have said also he's got a great engine.

Had some really sloppy moments but I'm pretty sure he was involved in every good bit of play we had when going forward as well as some great defensive work

Hopefully as he matures and with Contes coaching he cuts out the sloppiness. think he could become a really good prem midfielder

Yh good point regarding winks. Just think with Bentancur he seems a lot stronger defensively and more physical.

Absolutely , he’s brave on the ball to try things , everything won’t come off but you need that confidence to try it
