I think you're right but for the wrong reasons. If we get top 4 it's because we were good enough to get top 4 and so don't need to strengthen. That'll be Levy's logic.
We only spent £130m the last time we qualified because we spent the square route of fuck all the two prior windows and our best coach in 2+ decades was making a lot of noise about being unhappy. We certainly didn't spend £130m jut because we qualified.
Given we qualified the year before and bought no one.
And we qualified the year before that having finished 2nd and had a net spend of all of £32m

The idea that getting in the CL means we'll spend £100m+ net is hilarious.
I'm sure the poster that suggested it will reply to this with some gobbledegook but I won't care as he's on ignore. I only clicked show ignored content because I was curious as to what you were replying to.

Probably has a lot to do with the stadium that you're actually prepared to admit, we finished building the stadium that summer so could loosen our belts a bit on the spending.

The season before you're gonna have to ask why Poch didn't want to buy anyone because there was money there to spend.

Just a point that your post (and others) seems to miss.....

You don't get gifted 100m for qualifying for the CL (i.e. allowing a club to have a spend up that same summer); you accumulate prize money during the course of said CL campaign that on principal allows more spending money the following summer. Out of which, any associated player/manager bonuses (qualification bonuses, goal bonuses etc.) will be accounted for.

Now, maybe a club spends in advance, in expectation of that money, but they don't suddenly become cash-rich through qualification; nor does it guarantee the club is 100m in pocket....... Merely getting to the group stages = roughly 20m euros.

"There is also further revenue earned on top of the qualification prizes from TV money and to the top 32 ranked clubs based on UEFA coefficients."

As to the bolded, if we finish top 4, I expect Poch's noisemaking will have sounded like a pin drop compared to what Conte will be requiring.

I can imagine him saying to Levy "I got top 4 with a team that no one expected to get top half, so give me 4 new players and I'll win you a title"

And then Levy be like

"but if we won something, I would have to spend even more to maintain it, so no"

With Gladbach collectively underperforming this season, it may be time to revisit a move for either Marcus Thuram or Alassane Plea in the summer? Both are quality and would boost our attack.

Plea is 29 so a bit older than Thuram, who is 24, but he is also a bit more of a playmaker than Thuram which we could also need.

I like Reggie but would sell at that price, allows Conte to get in someone he wants.
Yep no brainier sell for best price. We have sess if we can keep him fit and go for a proven LB/LWB from premier if possible and if patrici can be bothered to look at what we see week in week out.
On another note how about Harrison from Leeds great engine and good with the ball plus great cross.

When he first arrived I thought he was going to be a star - but he's yet to consistently live up to that expectation. If Sesssegnon had stayed fit, I think Reguilon would not have played as much.

Only question imo is whether we have identified a decent replacement at an attractive price (same or lower than Reguilon sale price) - as even if Reguilon stays we would probably be trying to sign half a dozen players so money will be tight and recruitment staff time to both sell Reguillon and recruit his successor even tighter

To stop Barca buying him or to flip to barca?

Can't see barca paying what RM will nor us selling for less. RM don't need him and can't see them making a profit on him.

I like him as a player but the buyout is the top of his worth.

RM have 33 year old Marcello as LB and his contract runs out in June. Might Madrid be thinking they need another quality left back as replacement even with Mendy already there ?

Agree the buyout is top of his worth, but from RM's point of view exercising a buyout clause is really interested, he's an HG player etc. Just depends if they have cash available.

Not sure there's enough upside to justify trying to flip him ?
