Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We got dominated dominated within 5 mins of scoring the goal.

Villa wasn't the first time we got overwhelmed by the opposition in the first half. It happened against Wolves, Palace, and Southampton too. Out of these lot only Southampton were dirty like Villa. Wolves and Palace legit kicked our teeth in for 45 mins.

It could have very easily been another Southampton/Wolves, and a lot of wailing on the forums. Actually, against Palace we survived the first half cos they missed sitter after sitter, but they were able to keep up the intensity in the second half too, and ended up scoring 3.

It quite clear that some posters are wishing that this wasn't true, but the issue is quite plain to see, and it goes beyond dirty tactics of the opposition.

Wolves we (Hugo & deflections) fucked us... Pure and simple....

Palace... Away? Might as well be talking about a different club given the management & in game injuries and cards.

Talking about Palace home as well. We were under quite a bit of pressure until Zaha got sent off. Same with Southampton the next game until Salisu got sent off.

Wolves are a toothless team and the goals came from Hugo's errors, but the pressure was still there. We were massively struggling to impose ourselves on the game until late in the second half.

I don't understand why it's so hard to admit that this is a recurring pattern and a serious worry for us. It's not the horror show Mourinho/Nuno but man we cannot live with any real intensity.

Fair enough... Like I said. I wasn't sure.

Both games are before our Jan reinforcements which have help us massively.

Palace (H): State of that back 5!

S'oton (A): We were robbed tbf, but still Emerson, Sanchez, Winks & Dele all started!

Not every one sees it as a pattern....

Simple fact is some teams press as hard as they can for the early stages of a match and it's up to superior teams to ride that pressure out. Plus, as has been point out we are much better at playing through a press than we were even a couple of months ago.

Fact is, Since the turn of the year we've won more points that 17 other teams and scored more goals than all 19 teams in the league.
Whether we're getting pressed too much is neither here nor there, we are now winning a lot more than we're losing. And unlike the little purple patches by Mourinho and Nuno, it's not a fluke. We're tearing teams to shreds and making more chances in single games than those two coaches made in their tenures.

I'm not saying it's a fluke, our front 3 right now is probably the best in the league. We can absolutely smash any team when they click, but if they have an off game we're in trouble.

The 0-4, 0-4 against Leeds, and Villa are deceptive, both teams could could have scored a few against us too. They just wasted easy chances.

That's a valid strategy, and I believe that is what Conte is trying to do. I expected Villa to wither in the second half, but the thing is they were inches from scoring 3/4 goals in the first half. Of course Lloris made excellent saves, and that's his job, but they also missed sitters. Who knows what the mood of the team becomes after falling behind at half time.

It's not like the City game where they came with intensity, but in the end created very little.

I think to be a title challenging/comfortable top 4 side next season we'll have to rise to a level that lesser teams can't even do the 45mins of intensity gambit. We need to be able to respond to the intensity so that it results in them getting tired, but not us conceding chances.

I think you're somewhat confusing mere pressing with kicking the shit out of our players for 45minutes.

As I've already said, you can't genuinely assess the half whilst ignoring the effects of the latter.

Well as per the example you just used, we've proven we can do just that against arguably the best club in the world and beat them in the process.

Did we or did we not concede a lot of chances against the midtable teams discussed so far?

You keep bringing up the dirty tactics, and I'm not disagreeing with that, but it still resulted in those chances. Refs frequently let the opposition kick us into submission, we just have to deal with it.

It wasn't mere pressing either. Jacob Ramsey ran through our back line like a hot knife through butter. We conceded multiple chances from set pieces too.

Never any ‘wailing’ on this forum mate!

You must be thinking about somewhere else

Glory Glory?

Individual games come with their own discussions..... As I've already established the other 2 you just brought up were significantly weakened line-ups.

Do I think the Villa game indicative of a "pattern"?

No.

Oh come on... That wasn't run of the mill stuff!

Yes, it through us off our game; but again... Not sold on the idea that there is a detrimental pattern when you consider that by whatever means (i.e. Good goalkeeping IS allowed!):

Villa 4-0 (W)
Palace 3-0 (W)
City 3-2 (W)
Saints 1-1 (D) >>> Fucking robbed by VAR/officiating.

Aggregate score 11-3.... 10/12 points.

Yes, because we were massively off of our game in no small part due to the un-policed kicking we were getting!

I really wish Conté would speak out about this tactic of kick Tottenham off the pitch to beat them. I would have made a complaint about the referee Graham Scott allowing Docherty to be kicked out for the season, Mings to do a coward's tackle and Ashley Young trying to end Harry Kane's career.

The manager should step up to protect his players IN PUBLIC!!

I noticed that he hasn't spoken about any ref/VAR injusticies this season and hasn't spoken about our players getting kicked or hard done by, might be his method of managing, not giving the players any excuses or feeling sorry for themselves, more of just get the fuck on with it attitude which is making the players stand up and be counted.

I have a pet theory that he doesn't say anything cos we're spurs. I noticed Mou complained a lot less about refs at Spurs than he did at United.

When Poch lost his cool against Mike Dean, the reffing against us got even worse. It's like those power tripping American cops, the more you talk the worse the injustice gets.

I think Levy, Poch/Mou/Conte have had internal discussions about how to approach this, and decided that putting the pressure on refs won't help.

Compare the way that Klopp and Ole talk about refs, vs how Pep now talks about refs. Pep didn't make peep about refs at the weekend even though it would be fair to say Liverpool could have had both Thiago and Fabinho sent off. He used to complain, but he knows better now. You can only be vocal if you manage United or Liverpool these days.

On balance I think it's best not to get involved in on the pitch rows with officials. Clough's teams (surely pound for pound the most successful in English football history) never seemed to let anything get to them. Maybe the thinking was just concentrate on your own game, a lot of other stuff is just out of your control and can be distractions.

The one time I remember Clough really losing it was when they were reffed out of the Juventus semi, but that was bribery and no way could you influence that unless you paid out more than the Italians.

One of our most annoying matches was being pulled back to 2-2 from 2-0 up over the Chavs, the game descended into a brawl that just brought us down to their level. 6 yellows? And could easily have got reds for Moose and Lamela.

Not what I mean. Of course you don't want to lose your head like at the bridge but we also can't pressure refs like some clubs can.

That dodgy red nosed scottish cunt who ran United a few years ago bullied refs into giving them favourable decisions and and the infamous "fergie time". It wasn't emotion, it was putting the pressure on refs cos United was/is that powerful.

We need ignore bad reffing more to avoid retribution from the refs, than because it would devolve into a shitshow and we'd lose focus.

It’s entirely possible he said something directly to the league privately. Leagues and teams have means of official communication that doesn’t involve speaking out at a press conference and I’m sure the league does not like if teams go public immediately.
