We spent a shitload the summer of 2019, including our record signing. Spent badly, but spent nevertheless.
The club is now on a different trajectory, delayed due to COVID. Its now not a question of fighting for top 4 but cementing that position, aiming higher and finally for silverwear.
The club is thinking and acting differently, now the fans need to get in that mindset too

FWIW, I think going balls deep for Maddison and passing on Eriksen is the kind of thing a cutthroat, smart club would do rather than leaning on sentiment.
We'd suddenly have a perfect player to make us sing with a 3-5-2 which would be doubly useful either to set up against particular (defensive?) teams from the off or change a game (tough cup match?) via a plan B when things aren't going as expected.
I wouldn't want to play us.

This season may see more action than next in terms of player capital but we will spend what is needed
Romero and Bissouma are going snap those lightweights in half.

Eriksen makes more sense on a sentimental level, while Maddison has been a twat in the past, but as you say a cutthroat club has no time for sentimentality.

A midfield of Bissouma, one of Bentancur/PEH/Skipp and Maddison if we played 352 is one of the very best in the league easily.
Bissouma was one of the best 6’s last season and Maddison is one of the best AM’s in the league. It would just leave a World class CB to complete the team.
Leaving aside our other signings a window of Bissouma, Maddison and Richarlison is like the Liverpool window of Van Dijk and Allison. If Liverpool did just Bissouma and Maddison the media would be wanking into their cornflakes for weeks.

And the home grown factor, which we need to keep an eye on with Winks definitely on the off somewhere (possibly Leicester, which would make the whole exchange make a lot of sense too).

Also Woolwich are a rival for them trying to get Europa next season so theyd rather sell to us.

And if he joins Spurs, he knows what he's signing up for. Very hard work and sacrifice for the team. Getting into England team will be an added motivator.
