Not sure we couldn’t beat them home or away with virtually same line ups. Need to win this game as everyone knows what our record is like v chavs. Hopefully this season we don’t just lie down and let them come at us.
What’s depressing is that we haven’t upgraded rwb with a player who can come straight in. Spence I hope gets the chance as I really don’t see either Doh or royal tearing down that right wing trying break soton down. Unknown quantity as well. LWB perisic has to start. Sess hasn’t done enough in pre season.

I hope for so much this season and step one has to be better results against the teams who beat us last time around. In some ways, it's good that we have the opportunity to get this one out of our system early doors which will hopefully prepare us for the big one against Chelsea (We've got to get better results against that lot this season - four defeats and no goals scored is completely unacceptable).

Our first few fixtures aren't as easy as they may look on paper and any points from the Chelsea game will be unexpected and a bonus; so getting points early doors will be crucial. JWP is the threat. Don't give away set pieces

A bad day last year but at least we'll have a stronger line up than we fielded that day:
Spurs (3-4-3): Lloris (c), Sanchez, Romero, Davies, Royal, Winks, Hojbjerg (Bentancur 60), Reguilon (Bergwijn 83), Lucas (Kulusevski 76), Son, Kane.

Was a complete anomaly in Saints season last year that performance against us. They produced one of the best 90minutes we faced all year in truth, but very rarely played to that level again throughout the season. Can't see them putting up another 10/10 display but they will be up for it on opening day like all teams are.
I think now we are a bit better with our setup and playing up the field than we were when they pressed us off the park last time. If they try and press us again I think we will cope much better this time around, hopefully!

I think it will be more or less the same first XI from last season for this game, Bissouma isn't ready after COVID and Skipp hasn't played the last two games with a knock. It's really only the wing back positions and the LCB position that are question marks. Doherty and Perisic are lacking fitness after injuries but there is another week to train and get ready, same for Davies.
I think we'll see Perisic, Doherty and then either Lenglet or Davies. Thought Lenglet was definitely a positive to take from yesterday's game.
Agree, he did well. Very good stepping out and produced two good crosses. Certainly a better option than Davinson for a game like this, although Davinson is also trying to step out more and get involved.
Really hoping we see a central midfield of Bissouma and Bentancur asap. They are the two best footballers we have in that position and if we can slot Lenglet into the lcb position, we should be able to have much smoother buildup play and really punish teams who press aggressively.
I think the 5 subs is a factor too. Means he can start Perisic and Doherty even if he thinks they are only good for 70 minutes.
That’s the big plus for me - our increased depth and that we can make changes without weakening the team.
We got better results against both Man City and Liverpool last season so there is no reason why we shouldn't be more competitive against Chelsea. In all four games against them, we played like we were Norwich City and that's not good enough.
May I ask how you felt in the summer of 88 when we signed Paul Gascoigne? Yes, that was a good start to the season, he was a real star signing. Also, when we signed the lovely Daveed, that was pretty exciting
. But makes my point how far back we have to go to feel the level of anticipation that this season has generated in most of us Deleted member 15314

A shame cos I think our starting line up will be Benta/PEH. Bissouma doesn't seem ready.
Doesn't bode well for DJ Ed either.
So of our new signings only one likely to start is Perisic (which tbf is a big deal), and maybe Lenglet. Lenget against a hard pressing side like Southamton isn't bad.
Richalison looked good in pre-season, if not a revelation, so we should at least have a strong bench against them.
