AC Milan want Pape Matar Sarr but Tottenham Hotspur are demanding a deal worth around €30million for the midfielder.
Tottenham wanted to sign a talented young midfielder before last summer’s transfer deadline.
Ilaix Moriba was a top target from Barcelona but when he picked RB Leipzig, Tottenham moved on to Sarr instead.
It was reported at the time that Tottenham paid £14.6million to sign Sarr from Metz before sending him back to the French side on loan.
Sarr featured 33 times in the league for Metz last season, starting 22 of those games whilst recording one goal and three assists.
Now back with Tottenham for pre-season, it’s unlikely that Sarr will play first-team football for Spurs this season.
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp will all be ahead of Sarr in the pecking order.
Many were expecting Sarr to head out on loan but a permanent move can’t be ruled out now.
Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera report that AC Milan would like to sign Sarr and have been targeting him alongside Spurs teammate Japhet Tanganga.
It’s stated that Tottenham won’t even consider sending Sarr to Milan on loan with an option to buy; if Milan want him, they will have to pay up now.
Tottenham want €30million (£25million) for Sarr, giving them around £10million profit before any sell-on clause is sent to Metz.
Milan may have won Serie A and are in the Champions League but it seems unlikely that they will pay that kind of cash for Sarr right now.
Sarr, 19, is a major talent for the future and should be a player Tottenham build around moving forward unless an offer they can’t refuse comes in.
It’s almost surprising that Tottenham are even open to selling now but they have seemingly scared Milan away from a deal anyway.
