I think it was always just in decent tier, personally. We've done some solid business & addressed some problem areas but some really big ones are still there. Feels like we've done enough to keep pace with rivals for top 4 but not enough to push us up to anything like title challengers.

Depending on how Liverpool steady up; I think 2 - 4 will be fascinating this season.

Going from 4th to making City sweat in one window never seemed realistic to me..... I was concerned that Conte wouldn't be satisfied with that outlook, but he seems comfortable with the idea that we had more than one window's worth of work to do so on we push.

Gelson Martins could be a fun addition. A real tricky dribbler that is able to carry the ball.

his contract expires in 2024 so Monaco may be interested in selling him now as well.

re £150m

if I remember the club statement rightly, they said at the time that that total was not for transfers alone. I think ally gold said something about £100m being made available to spend plus any income from player sales.

if that's the case, are we about there? some quick, dirty maths...

out £105 (£135m including add-ons)
in £23m (£37m including add-ons)
difference £82m (£98m including add-ons)

I mean, that figure is proper dirty, no loan fees or signing on fees taken into account, player sale percentages owed etc. Plus, no one really knows exactly what money is paid/ received

still, enough for one more?

My expectations were we have a window where we're not necessarily knocking on City's door but neither are we overly worried about finishing 5th. Not saying I expected us to totally piss it, but at least to build on last season.

I don't currently think that happens. It's gonna be another horrid top 4 battle for us.

I don't think money is directly the issue.

We've obviously had a good window but it's strange to me that we didn't have more a plan for replacing Gil.

I'm sure Conte made it clear early on that he wasn't up to snuff so why haven't we brought someone better in?

We are now stuck with a player Conte won't use and it will stunt Gil's development, if he is ever to become a PL ready player.

We were strongly linked to Zainolo so obviously an additional attacker was in mind but we really had no alternatives to the sick note?

Lucas and Gil are fine for early rounds of domestic cups but we basically only have Richarlison now as someone that can come on and change a game.
