Unless someone like Kulusevski could be conditioned to play the third spare midfielder (which I did suggest earlier I think)
Kulu isn't that good in the middle, at least not in the sense you intend. He played as a "mezzala" (box to box lateral midfielder) in Parma but he was good there because he had wide open spaces to run into with the ball on one of the flanks. He is made to run with the ball, it's his main quality, and you usually can't do that much in the very middle of the pitch.

He has improved his ball control but he's still a bit clumsy in constricted spaces so he's not someone I'd ever place as an attacking mid at the centre of a 3-men midfield. His passing ability is okay but still nowhere near Kane's for example, and his decision-making still has room to improve.

He could work as a mezzala (the role he had in Parma) so one of the two lateral players in the 3-men midfield, but he wouldn't have a "creative passer" role as much as a "driving force" role.

I guess this is what I pictured when making the suggestion. I don’t actually think I see him playing through balls, but his ability to drive forward with the ball, his first touch, and the fact that he’s very good at one touch football/ give and go make me feel there’s potential there.

Of course it might look very different away from the flank, he’ll need to be looking in all directions at all times all of a sudden, but outside of Kane I feel he’s our most aware player. And he could still drift wide to put in those beautiful crosses- De Bruyne probably assists more with crosses than any other type of pass.

Pie in the sky really as I don’t expect it to happen, but if we played a 3 I’d prefer that to any version of 3 of our pure CMs.

It always amazes me how we have a player that's playing well in a certain position.
People then come on and say "okay him at WB", or "Try him in the middle".

Fuck that, leave him where he's playing well and get the other players to improve rather than risking him playing poorly in a new position.

In fairness the context of the comments you disapprove of make those comments very different to how you’re portraying them:

I don’t think we could play a 3 that would work if it came from our current collection of CMs, so IF we did that I would rather try Kulusevski there (especially given that there’d only be 2 forward slots if we changed a CM3) than use 3 primarily defensive players.
Is very different to
‘He’s playing well where he is but I want to try him in a new role’.

Didn’t say I want him there, merely supposed that if we played a 352 instead of 343, instead of dropping him (assuming you wouldn’t want to change his position to centre forward), I’d try him as a spare midfielder in 3 instead of going with 3 safety first players.

3-5-2 will only be used if we are winning and need to regain control of the middle of the pitch. Last 15/20.

We’ll do it in NLD too if we are winning going into final quarter.

It wasn't a pop at anyone in particular and wasn't really aimed at Kulu either tbh.
Although people on here have advocated playing him at WB in our current system.

It's similar to when people were saying to play Tanganga as a DM.

These players have never played there in their lives (fair enough on the odd occasion it does work out) and to risk that in the PL is madness in my opinion.

It's a whole different position, requiring a whole different skill set.

It's the equivalent of saying to play Dier at CF just because he's scored a couple of goals.

You not think he could replicate that on the right of the MF in a 352?

Son / Kane
[LWB] / PEH / Bissouma / Kulu / [RWB]
CB / CB / CB
...Though we'd probably want to tighten things up a bit against top teams and replace him with Bentancur or Skipp.

Anyone know Italian and can translate the Italian quesion?
