Player Djed Spence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Was it a levy or pat signing?
I don't think Levy ever 'wants' to sign a player. He always prefers a DoF for that - it's the managers like Poch that don't. Even when we didn't have a DoF on paper Levy still used ex-pros like Pleat as makeshift DoFs to advise on transfers.

I understand Paratici/Levy here. Conte is a famously short-term manager, even by EPL standards, I don't think you can run a club with transfer policy solely on that - you need some long-term planning bridging managers.

Conte should accept this but is too stubborn and now Spence is caught in the middle. I don't know why we didn't just loan him back somewhere if Conte had no interest in playing him.

I respect your opinion, but have to say, what can we really know about Spence until we see him get a full game with us?

Emerson and Doherty we know aren't that great because- we'll, we've seen them prove it in a lot of games.

I'd just like to see Conte start him once so we can get a look at what kind of player he really is. Persisting with mediocrity is a really bad look.

Conte has a vantage point far greater than ours as fans.

Who's managing the team here? The manager or fan optics...... Few fucks given about the latter tbh.

Conte isn't infallible, and thinking such is as much projection as what you charge here.

I've not said he is "infallible" (It seems you are trying to peg me with your frustrations with an existing narrative from elsewhere there).....

I just don\t see the cause to assume that Spence won't eventually break into the team (which is the notion I originally responded to).

I'll answer this- because Conte strikes me as a judgmental, OCD perfectionist. And for those types, if they don't get the things they want precisely, they are not only seen as of no help to them, but an unnecessary hindrance to their plans.

Look if Conte doesn't rate him, that is fine. But Levy surely fucked up if that is the case, and, it's unfair of us to hold back Spence's development just because he's now caught in Levy's web of being an investment. I hope we move him on asap if Conte won't give him a game. There's just no way he can be offensively worse than Emerson or Doherty. I have a hard time believing he'd be worse defensively either.

Basing this on anything other than a hunch?

I asked as much above of another poster; cos right now it seems the elephant in the room with those that are most frustrated.... All they're prepared to address is their limited insight into his attacking game vs their frustrations with that of Emerson (and to a lesser extent Doh).

I'm keen enough to be educated by greater insight, but baseless supposition isn't enough for me to doubt Conte's more informed judgement; be he (Conte) "fallible" or not.

It's funny as fuck tbh..... Like all the 'Conte is a bad-ass' rhetoric; it's conspicuous how the "Conte is a WB whisperer" (Mose, Young, Perisic) rhetoric quickly dries up to suit when there are more current narratives to push.

What happened to the last 5 years of youth development at this club, with not loaning out players at key times in their development, and now our total lack of quality club-trained depth, is shamefully bad. Spending 20m to sit a very promising kid on the bench when he needs to be playing is just stupid.

We have a new DOF in place..... He shouldn't be typecast with the failures that came before him.

We've already seen with Gil & Sarr that he's perfectly happy to loan young players out fresh (or soon) after purchase.

Just maybe Conte said "no; don't loan him out. I'll get him into shape here" and it might just take longer than 2 months to do so.... Much like it would have if he'd spent the last 2 months at Forest getting his arse handed to him instead.

It's the registration that matters - you can't transfer it twice, doesn't matter if he's never played.

Technically, registration isn't locked in until the end of the transfer window, so I'm pretty sure that even if he had played for Middlesbrough, he could still be registered again after having been registered with Spurs. The first transfer wouldn't count toward the limit, as it was done before registration was closed.

Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have combined for a total of zero goals and just one assist, as well as creating no big chances for their teammates, over their accumulative 15 appearances in all competitions so far this season. Now, let's have a think, have we got anyone else in the squad who could possibly play a slightly more attacking role?

This thread is a shambles. When this kid finally plays and doesn't look like the 2nd coming of Cafu, many of the posters calling for him to start will be saying he's not good enough, what did we sign him for?

Doherty has played ONE fucking game.

:sigh:

Last season he got a goal or an assist every 1.4 games.
