Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

This is the same Conté that was getting handjobs on this forum at the end of last season. Very little has changed other than that a couple of players, Sonny in particular, are going through (hopefully, temporary) drops in form.

But, basically, it’s the same football. It was the football that we expected, the football he played at Chelsea and the football we played on the run that saw us put together 10 straight home wins.
I'm sorry but thats just not true. The football is way off March, April, May last season. We were passing it well all across the pitch, creating tons of chances, scoring loads and looked very tight at the back. Performances at City, Leeds, Liverpool and home to West Ham, Newcastle, Leicester and Everton were top class. Not seen 1 game this season close to that. We look slow, cant pass, leaky at the back and lacklustre up front. There was the odd blip last season Burnley, Brentford, Brighton but our all round play has fallen off a cliff.

Big part of all this is the fact that we're missing Kulu

Kulu was the guy making things tick

Prior to Kulu, we were absolute shit

Not having Kulu right now is half of the issue. He was massive for us in our turnaround last season. We just don't have any players with his skillset.

Agree on that to an extent but Kulu started this season when performances were still pretty rotten and not sure why him being out would mean the defence suddenly looks flakey and players cant pass. Does beg the question why we didnt sign another top creative player though.

Third in the league and people crying out for his head? Wow, tough crowd.

Conte is the very least of our problems.

Disappointing week, but we are still in a good position to kick on, both in the PL and in the CL
We are tied for 4th if you take out Chelsea and United’s game in hand.

None of our young players are being developed. Sess and Emerson don’t count as footballers.

Conte has never shown long term project success and we are just treading water short term while son and Kane age into their 30s.

Conte doesn’t give players a chance and seems content to just fail with the same players again and again.

It’s not like we are a disaster but there’s plenty of room for disappointment.

Time to ditch the back 5. We don't have the players to transition and our attacking play is awful because we are too deep and can't get up to support the attack. The only way we are going to save this season is set the team up 15 yards higher up the pitch and to start pressing like everybody else is doing.
we don't have the cb's to play a back 4. We would get absolutely battered playing a back 4...it would be brutal.

Yeah and it’s shit football. We play the worst football in the league.

Yeah, I don't believe that it's about any individual player, cos apart from Benta and to an extent PEH, everyone has been fucking shite going back to pre-season, or at least worse than they were last season.

We were saved by being able to sub on Kulu or Rich against tired legs.

Conte's much vaunted pre-season seems to have had the opposite effect. The fluidity and chemistry is completely gone, and even when it's there for a few minutes per game, we're missing easy chances.

Conte needs to navigate our next 6 or 7 matches and then reassess. Our squad clearly cannot cope with just Son and Kane and we have to start looking hard at Lloris and our central defenders. He will know all this.

Nothing but nothing is ever easy or predictable with us, apart from our mental fragility.

Wednesday is a big game and if we can win that and them overcome Bournemouth next weekend it will go some way to calming matters. Neither is a gimme or easy by any stretch.

What Conte needs to do is get his team selection right but also needs the players to deliver. How we can make so many individual mistakes is beyond me.

Let's see what this high grade manager is made of. It's exactly the same for Klopp and Liverpool right now so we are not alone..

I am going to write my general thoughts on our club here because I have no idea where I should write them on the forum.

First of all, I want to say that I don't think any of our problems can be solved by changing the manager, we have seen time and time again that the "solution" to our problem is "change the manager!" and it never works, it's like the Tories changing leader, the issue runs deeper than the face at the top.

The truth is, it seems like we are building towards getting some sort of decent planning behind the scenes, we have been active in the market and we seem to have a plan for building a team going forward under Conte but frankly I do not think we are anywhere near a finished product and that brings up the ultimate problem in all this.

Will Conte stick around long enough or be given enough time for him and the DOF to actually build a winning model? It's going to require lots more investment (200m+) or less money and some VERY good scouting in order to fix the fundemental issues here.

We are also looking at Kane and Son both getting older and we need a replacement GK and essentially, imo, a whole new back four, a RB, a LB, a CB and then a creative mid and another forward player (depending on if or when Kane/Son finish being effective/leave we may need even more.)

I don't think Conte will be here that long and I also think that when he does go, the funds and the forward thinking in the market and squad investment might grind to a halt if we can't get another top manager because after Conte not getting any success, I think it will be a hard sell to get a manager to come here.

Look at what happened with Nuno, nobody wanted to come here, took us months to get anyone and then we got Nuno, I think the only reason we got Conte is because he is an utter nutcase and just wanted to prove to himself he could elevate this club (which he did already by getting us back into the top four imo.)

Which brings me to my next issue, is it Levy and ENIC's plan right now to try and throw everything at the wall to try and bring success under Conte as one last throw of the dice? If it fails this time are they going to just go back to a long term project manager on a tight budget and hope for a miracle like under Poch? Will we go BACK to Poch? Jesus, what a mess this whole thing will be.

I feel like, whilst we seem to have made strides forward I am still very untrusting of the leadership behind the scenes in terms of the long term planning, I still feel like the rug could be pulled at any moment and we could be back to square one.

This isn't just because of the result today, I maintain that we have had a good season so far, the numbers have shown that. However, the nature of the result today felt different to others, it just felt like the crowd are fed up, the players look sluggish and unmotivated and the manager looks like he has run out of ideas.

The amount of mistakes we make on and off the pitch is what is holding the club back, off the pitch, things have slightly improved imo, on the pitch things have improved massively from Nuno but still nowhere near the heights of Poch imo where we all felt a sense of pride and joy and it felt like magic was happening.

It felt magic towards the end of last season under Conte but we haven't quite hit those heights since.

I really don't know what the solution is, I feel like we need better communication from the medical team also, our injuries that are supposed to be short term always seem to take forever and like I said earlier, it feels like the medical team is almost a fingerprint from a bygone era, maybe we need a staff overhaul behind the scenes to rid ourselves of the old staff, we started doing that by removing Hitchen and giving Conte his own staff, maybe we need to go further?

The main issue for me is that this club just has a stink of weak mentality around it, we flake at the most important times, we seem to commit more mistakes than any other team and you can just feel the negative emotions around the club, like everyone has had enough of being the nearly men.

And I think that's a great step forward, we should all be fed up but I also don't know what the solution is to actually ridding ourselves of that tag besides winning something, that's the only real thing that will change the atmosphere of the club at this point I feel.

TLDR

I dunno, I am just ranting now, I guess, like many of us, I am just tired of things always ending the same way, something needs to change but like I said, I don't think changing the manager will fix anything.

I still think he’s a great manager but really needs to shake things up. We’ve become way too predictable. At least Skippy and Lucas showed something different than the usual “patterns”.

Conte hasn't tried to reinvent his system this season, so in that sense the fella above is correct.

The footballing intent (tactics?) is seemingly much the same; but it's not functioning anywhere near as well as it was last season....

Dier & Sonny are both a shadow of the players they were last season and this seems to be central to our struggles... Add to that Romero being a bit iffy at times, flip-flopping between Davies & Lenglet (the former being a player that thrives off of consistent game-time) and Doherty getting a much delayed start to the season it's no wonder things performances haven't been at the same level.

This is not to completely absolve Conte..... Far from it. His in-game management and the extreme fluctuation in apparent motivation levels have been a big worry.

he needs to get some fucking proper defenders in who we can rely on. january we need to be active or we could fall out of the top 4 and put ourselves back a few years. if we drop out its going to be hard to get back in now with the other clubs all progressing.
