Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I’ve posted before that the fa cup and this season’s champions league should probably be the priority. Chances are it’s going to be our last run in champions league for a few seasons.
I think conte should go in January if he’s not going to sign a new contract. Fuck it let mason have it till the end of the season.
Dimatteo won a champions league and he was useless.

so 3 people close to him dying is the reason son hasnt been dropped? its the reason lloris has been allowed to make blunder after blunder with no consequences? its the reason donkey dier is still at the heart of defence when a blind man can see hes nowhere near good enough?

I'm not convinced it is costing us games. Off the ball, Son is still one of the hardest workers in the team, but his effectiveness in the final 3rd has diminished.

But right now, we don't have other options. Gil doesn't offer Son's box to box work rate. The only other option would be playing Perisic in a forward position - but he has hardly set the world alight himself.

Son might be lacking in front of goal - but you still get 90 minutes of him doing his job elsewhere on the pitch without fail - which is why the coach needs him on the pitch.
Of all European attacking midfielders/wide forwards Son is in the bottom 30% for tackles, interceptions, clearances, blocks and aerials won. Gil is top 30% for tackles, top 2% for blocks, top 40% for clearances. They're level for blocks p/90 and Son is 5% better at aerial duels. (Stats skewed obviously because Gil plays less mins and works his ass off when he does).. Son shirks nearly every loose ball duel he comes across these days. His being incredibly ineffective out of possession is a big issue for us, especially when he's not helping us score goals.

You really think Conte is oblivious to the fact he needs to win matches?
He seems more concerned with doing the exact same thing he's been doing than he is with the fact that it's clearly not working.

If I failed to deliver at work for months and yet was still trying the same processes in January that failed in September, I wouldn't have a job anymore.

It's the complete indifference to the lack of success of the system he's completely unwilling to tweak that's pissing me off about Conte now.

Antonio Conte has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur would regret seeing him leave, claiming that all of his previous clubs have.

Just under a year ago Conte masterminded a victory away to Manchester City that was one of the defining moments of Spurs’ season. It was the catalyst for their push into the Champions League places, which acted as leverage for Conte in the transfer market.

There are parallels as they return to the Etihad tonight: poor form; a need for new signings, and a manager playing down expectations.

The difference, however, is that Conte must share some of the blame, with his team’s playing style under question and his refusal to commit to the club beyond the summer not helping.

Conte regardless believes that Spurs would be wrong to look to move on from him now. “You could tell me I could not be a good coach but about the commitment and what I give the club, no club was unhappy about this,” the 53-year-old said. “Usually when I left the club they regret [that] a lot because they knew the way that I work.”

That may not be wholly true. After Conte left Juventus in 2014 they won six straight titles
, although there has been a mooted return this summer after three seasons of struggle. Chelsea have not won the title since Conte’s first season there in 2017, but they have won the Champions League and have not finished outside of the top four. Inter Milan only narrowly missed out on defending the title Conte won with them in 2021.

Under Conte, Tottenham also beat Woolwich and drew at Anfield towards the end of last season. This season they have played five games against “big six” sides and lost every one, bar the late draw at Chelsea, and they face City twice in under three weeks.

“In this type of game, it’s not important to give extra motivation to your players, because they know the importance of the game and they have the motivation in themselves, because they know they are going to play against top players,” Conte said.

“We are going to face the best team in the world. If my team is going to play with a team at the bottom of the table or in first, I put the same pressure, because for me the pressure is a positive to give 100 per cent.”
Conte also reflected on the emotional strain caused by the death of three of his friends this season. He lost Gian Piero Ventrone, Tottenham’s popular fitness coach, in October and the former players Sinisa Mihajlovic last month and Gianluca Vialli two weeks ago.

“For sure this season is making me have an important reflection on my future,” he said. “You have important reflections because many times we think and we give a lot of importance to our work and we forget family and that we need to have more time for us.

“This season is a difficult season for me personally. But this [football] is our passion and for the passion we lost a lot of things.”

He was asked whether the losses had prompted him to consider changes to his lifestyle — his family have been living in Italy because he did not want to change his daughter’s school.
“To have my family in Italy is not good,” he said. “But if every two seasons you have to bring your kids to change their environment, I don’t want to affect the life of my family.

“When this situation happens you start to think that maybe sometimes it is also good to give more time to your family and friends and also to yourself. The work is not everything in life.”

Juve also reached the Cl final (that he'd claimed wasn't possible because of the weakness in his squad) after he left.

So basically if we stick with him and win shit, after he leaves we'll win even more shit?

What a pathetic headline.

Having watched what he said ( in reply to a question about work ethic ), in broken English mind, was that no one ever questioned that he gave his all.

No more. No less.

I hear you.

I think he sticks with a system and tries to embed it with quality players who can perform well within it.

He makes tactical changes depending on the opposition but rarely formation changes, but let's be honest that's not any different to the likes of Pep or Klopp who are wedded to their systems - both of them struggled until they had their players in and Conte hasn't had a full season yet. Plus lots of injuries to key players this year (Romero, Benta, Kulu, Rich, Son, Lucas) and some poor quality players in other key areas.

Conte asked for 4 windows and he should get them - their isn't many if any managers who would've turned the squad last season into a top 4 team. Give him some time and some reinforcements. Sacking him now would be disastrous imo - who would we even bring in to replace him?

I'm not against him getting the time, but if he wants 4 windows he ought to extend his contract 2 seasons beyond the 4th window. There's no reason to expect the club to purchase players specifically tailored to the system and desires of a manager who isn't going to commit to the club.
