Anthony Gordon was never a 60m player but quickly becoming underrated as a result of being labelled as such. He's a talented player.

Last season was really his breakout season with 40 games played in all competitions with 4 goals and 3 assists - before last season played far less.

This season he may struggle to better last season, but he's still only 21

Valuing him on one season output is tricky - I'm not sure he's worth more than say 25m plus another 15m or 20m based upon future achievements. Plenty of players have got to his level and not improved, so its a risk.

If Everton had more time they'd be better to hold on to see if his performances justify higher values.

out of contract hmmm

Midfielder's or centre back's what?

Portugese tweeter followed by Fabrizio Romano, Alistair Gold etc, so probably legit. A loose translation ( Nabil Bentaleb Nabil Bentaleb can probably improve the translation) :

Deal for €45m payable over two and a half years in 3 or 4 tranches.
However Sporting want to be able to play him in their League Cup final v Porto (which is on Saturday) So will in be announced before then ?

Mancity are entitled to 30% of Sporting's gain so get €11m, whilst Sporting keep the remaining € 34m.

So we will pay the clause to the penny. At the absolute fucking end of January.

The prosecution rests.

Anyone who wants to come at this with the actuarial value of deferred payments, my word, have a look at yourself.

All fair and can’t disagree. I would say that City probably pay their squad players above what we pay our first team players and that extra few million a year probably abates a number of tantrums.

To the original point though, upgrading the first eleven so that previous first team players drop to the bench, isn’t always easy. We could easily upgrade Dier to see him move on and then have a massive drop off when new Centre back is injured and Rodon has to deputies for a few weeks.
Very true, but then that's pretty much what I was posting earlier to Matt (I think it was Matt...). JUST upgrading a first team position isn't enough, the bench needs improving too. If Dier ups his game because he slips down the pecking order then that is good for both him and the club. If he acts the Billy Big Bollox and creates strife then he goes. Whether that be out of the club or banishment to the reserves doesn't matter to me. If you're not prepared to knuckle down and fight for a spot then you're not worthy of it. Alternately, if you're happy to take a bit part, not make a fuss and just be happy to draw the wage, then you should be shipped out pronto.

Having said all of that, I don't believe Dier is that kind of player, he's just not good enough now, but I think he'd try to get his spot back.

BTW, I wasn't suggesting that he be sold to make room for a replacement. If we do ship one/two of our CB's out, there's 3 that need to go before he does. He might not be good enough to start, IMHO, but he's a better option than the rest.

His is a leadership and organisational role in a back 3. It's almost like the old fashioned sweeper, directing the other defenders so that he sweeps up anything that gets through. It's patently obvious that he's not up to the role, our goals shipped is testament to that. Romero is quality and I believe Lenglet, if he had that organiser behind him, would look a lot better than he does. To give you a comparison, look at how VDV transformed the pool defence when he joined it. They were all over the place before that, then VDV organises them and they looked unbeatable. Now look at them now that VDV's form has dropped off a cliff, they're reverting back to the shambles they were before his arrival.

It's not just Dier though. Lloris is also a problem. He's never really been an organiser either. In the decade he's been here, I don't recall him organising or directing what was in front of him. When we had Toby and Verts, he didn't need to be, he just had to be a good shot stopper, and at that he was World Class. But his form has gone to the wall as well, so we have two Spine players that are on a downward trajectory formwise, and don't have the skillset to compensate for that by making sure what is around them is organised and solid.

So they both need replacing. For Dier, it doesn't have to be just yet as there's others that are worse and should be shipped first. I'd be happy if Hugo were to see out the remainder of his career with us as a number 2, he's still got enough chops to keep his replacement on his toes, but I think he'd rather see out his career at a team where he's still good enough to be first choice, in France most likely.

For me, the role Dier currently occupies is probably the most key position for any team. If your defence is organised and solid, you have the foundation that takes pressure off the frontline, you know that you can take a game 1-0 if it comes to it. At the moment, we're almost constantly needing to score 2 just to not lose. Every great side is built off a solid defence, and every great defence has at least 1 quality leader. They don't have to be a World class baller, they just need to have top class organisational skill.

Dier has neither.

All but one of them don’t start & that one is on fucking loan. So we wouldn’t need to replace any of them, they’ve already been replaced.

But don’t let that stop you from defending Eric’s honour.
Your prejudice doesn't stop you posting ridiculous comments though, does it? You were presented with a perfectly reasonable comment on the playing pecking order of our current defenders in central positions, and failed to grasp the relevance and common sense behind it.
So you attempt to belittle him.

Completely oblivious to the ignorance and stupidity of your post.

You really believe you have some gifted insight, don't you?

You don't
