I don't think anyone will be particularly bothered about his defensive contribution if he gives us the drive down the right hand side we desperately need, having someone capable of bombing forward and picking out an intelligent pass or cross will free up Kulu to drift inside and offer a good passing option. I actually think our attacking coherency is going to massively improve, our players currently don't really adjust their positioning when Royal is coming forward because they're (quite rightly) expecting a horror show of a pass or cross.
Yep I'm sure it can't be worse than Victor Moses' contribution.

Wingbacks in Conte's system are primarily attackers and should provide creativity. We have been woefully short in that department.

The 3 CBs and 2 CMs provide enough defensive cover.

You will care about Porros defensive weaknesses when we move to a back 4 next season.

So many people on here are a joke - so desperate for a signing that you don’t think over a timeframe longer than 6 months.

I doubt we'll move to a 4 next season. We'll probably target another 3-4-3/3-5-2 specialist, but maybe one who is less set in his ways in terms of player discipline and allows a bit more fluidity. The formation itself isn't what makes us generally a bit boring.

New CCB/LCB next summer + Porro/Udogie as wing backs and any 3 at the back formation should look a lot better.

I did raise that elsewhere. It would at least show some strategic vision on the football side.

But to my mind, building a squad around a back 3 limits your options in terms of coaches. I don’t know if we can afford to restrict our options so much.

Surely this is the problem fans are not paid 6 million a year plus do not own a large percentage of the club . Levy is very well rewarded and invested to stop making short term bad decisions .

Porro means we have to do it imo. Him, Udogie, Doherty, Perisic & Sessegnon are all more comfortable in a five. Would be weird to bring in ANOTHER specialist WB to only then change direction that quickly, I don't believe we're that incompetent.

It is limiting but other clubs on the continent have done it, Inter I know went for Inzaghi after Conte and kept pretty much a similar system. I think we're wedded to it for a while now for better or worse, there's a good handful of coaches out there who utilise the setup so hopefully one will be available.

Levy can and should do better. Agreed.

But when fans complain and moan despite excellent on field performance it’s all about zzzzzz and entitled

Nagelsmann maybe, struggling a bit at Bayern

That would be perfect if he became available. Screams Spurs coach imo, a litle bit crazy at times tactics wise but it should be entertaining, and the upside in terms of his potential as a coach is really high. Was probably just too early for him to go to Bayern.

Or hey, the Sporting coach plays a 3 too. Or Gasperini if we fancy some fun. There's plenty out there, it's just quite a few of them would be a risk.

Hincapie is a Udogie, Spence, Sarr type signing, right? Not a top-class defender yet but could be in a year or 2?
Pretty much, but the general idea being he couldn't possibly be worse than the defender he would replace, most likely Sanchez. I think he's a smart type of signing for a Jan window because there's gonna be no top class defenders floating about but you bring a Hincapie in now for the objective squad improvement then a top class CB in summer to finish the starting trio and bed them in together. If the talent is there these type of players are only gonna look class if they're playing with classy players around them.

Out if interest what's the point of such a negative and fatalist view before he's even kicked a ball for us? You have no idea if Conte will sign or not or whether we'll get a 3atb coach after him or not. Is it purely so if it doesn't work out you can quote your little post here and say "see, I told you not to get excited!!"
Sad if true.

Er, that’s pretty much exactly what everyone on the board who dislikes ENIC wants.

A coherent footballing strategy where we buy the correct players for the correct formation.

And if you think people on the board are a joke, what about the people that run the club???

Frankly any progressive manager should be able to make 3-4-3 work if given 3 ball playing CBs and gifted WBs.

Tbh we’re nearly there… 2 CBs away.
