Match Back to basics Match Thread:. LIVERPOOL FC v TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FC: Sunday, 4.30pm (aka: Tea-time) Deal with it!

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

As a lower-middle class kid in Norfolk in the 60s, we were too posh to have tea as our evening meal but not posh enough to have dinner (I never heard that term till I went to London in 1980, everyone I knew had dinner in the middle of the day).

It was supper for us. But yeah, tea time was somewhere between 4pm and 5pm. Tea and cake for grown ups, orange squash for the kids.
Breakfast is in the morning

Lunch is middle of the day

Tea is middle of the afternoon

Dinner is in the evening

I rarely eat food.

Went straight from work to the game on Thursday having not eaten since the day before. My dad offered to buy some food from inside the stadium.

I refused. Not giving anymore money to levy.

They call me Gandhi! Starvation is my form of protest! 😂

That 4-5 snack in France is called the goûter. However it’s traditionally eaten only by children and not adults. A square of chocolate with some baguette is a classic.

Supper comes from the french “souper” - the soup course. Dinner is “le dîner”… the evening meal.

Tea is a charming Anglo Saxon attempt at naming a meal. Lunch too.

There’s a tenuous link to one of my favourite etymological facts. The names of animals in english tend to be Anglo Saxon but the names of meats tend to be french. Chicken, cow and sheep… but poultry, beef and mutton.

I love how this match thread has already deviated from the match itself, and any opinion of formation, starting XI or result, to the way more important various definitions of "TEA TIME*!

That's what I like to see....

Yes Tea time was probably when it felt good to have a cup of tea

Quite simple really

To stay on thread which is very important tomorrow’s game starts at ‘Tea time’!

Afternoon tea is probably my most favourite meal.

Ever had tea at Fortnum's? That's a real treat.....also the Ritz or Durrants...

Unbelievably we are only 3 points behind our total last season after 33 games.
We drew this game 2021-22.
Same teams and same games last season we won 4 and drew one.

Why because both the Europa & Conference are winnable as long as the new Manager treats it seriously like the other teams did this season.
They haven't won them yet!!

I'd go balls deep for the Europa (plus it carries an extra CL place) if we finish in the Europa Conference League, then I'd be happy to see our Youth/u-23's have a crack at it.... If only to give them valuable European experience, for when we INEVITABLY get CL football the SEASON AFTER, cos we didn't have any 1st team European distractions NEXT season!

There has to be SOME benefit to qualifying for it!
