Youth Spurs Youth 2022/23

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Brilliant night - some serious talent in that squad - about 500 spurs fans I’d guess - all appeared to be enjoying themselves - with some fun chants - can we watch you every week and some golden oldies like we were there when Steve went up to lift the FA cup

Would love to see Mundle, Rio, Donley, Devine and even Dorrington all on the bench in the coming weeks tbh.

Been common to see 2 youngsters on bench for a few weeks now - typically Devine and Mundle but we've also seen Abbott. So no reason not to vary some of the youngsters on the bench

If we are in europe next season, I'd really like to see 2/3/4 of these youngsters on the bench on a regular basis and some of these getting minutes - worth recalling Mourhino gave several youngsters their debuts and limited playing time, whilst Redknapp a decade ago perhaps even overdid youth playing time in some europe matches, although in one where we had won 5-0 away the home leg included Kane getting his debut as well as maybe 4 or 5 others also getting debuts or extra playing time.

Please develop them properly and give them first team time, not like Poch did with our last good batch.
Poch's status as a youth whisperer as Spurs is honestly a bit undeserved in hindsight.

He did really well to utilize the youngsters already involved with the first team like Bentaleb, Kane and Townsend under Sherwood and AVB. And brought up Mason full time. But other than that it was really only Winks that broke into the first team as a full regular starter.

Like, he was good at using youth that was already involved with the first team. But this idea that he routinely brought guys from the academy up all the way is kinda undeserved.

Good to see the squad togetherness - Irow couldn't be involved last night but still proud of what the squad has achieved (and of course he featured in some of earlier rounds of u18 cup as well as u17 Premier League Cup final winner)

Just a reminder about youth talents...

Premier League reveal 97% of players who come through top academies never play a minute of top-flight football

EXCLUSIVE

The analysis shows that 70% are not even handed a professional contract at a Premier League or English Football League club

That’s some John Stones type stuff so I hope people will be patient with Dorrington if he does make the step up to the first team, because HE WILL get caught out on occasion doing that and we will have to live with it. (see Juan Foyth)

True - but Dorrington has been playing in Spurs u18's for 2 seasons now (with a few u21 matches as well) where he is practicing what he can do week in week out and showing that he's pretty reliable with few errors.

By contrast Poch kept Foyth with first team training and NO matches until he was given a start in the first team, giving away 2 penalties in that match - I would suggest that the reason for the penalties was lack of match practice for about 3 years. Things didn't improve for Foyth (not sure he ever played a youth team match) with his only matches being in first team where inevitable mistakes caused by lack of match experience were very noticeable.

Moved to Spanish league where he's doing fine - maybe he was allowed a few non competitive matches (I just do not know), but either way Foyth is a great example of the folly of not getting any matches for about 3 years before first team. And why youth matches followed by loans is very likely to be a better grounding for youngsters if they have the skill, dedication and determination to make it at Spurs - and that's the route I hope to see re-introduced for Spurs youngsters such s Dorrington.
