Tottenham have verbally agreed an initial £17.2m deal with Empoli to sign goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

A highly respected goalkeeping coach with a top Serie A team has told Sky Sports News:

“In my opinion he’s the best Italian goalkeeper right now, but may need time to adjust to the Premier League.

"He’s evolved fantastically in the past 12 months. He’s very consistent and never makes big mistakes.

"He’s good with his feet, but not spectacular, because he’s aware of the risks of playing out.

"For Tottenham, he’s not yet Hugo Lloris, but has a similar style.”

Raya at £40 million is far from sensible
I said sensible offer, I didn't say pay £40m for Raya. With a year on his deal, that's a mental fee - he's not Allison/Ederson levels.

I'll happily say I'm wrong if we sign this lad and he's a star.

But GK is one of our two weakest areas. You don't HAVE to spend big money to get someone outstanding if your recruitment is right; but the bigger teams spend big where they need to.

The Mercurial No.10 The Mercurial No.10 and Deuterz Deuterz in one day!?

Drink it in. Because you'll never see anything like this ever again.
What's going on? I've just read the last 5 or so pages, and can't see anything terrible, just people calling each other cunts (which happens on most pages of most threads) - did they do something bad in another thread? :/

And thats the 3rd Sending off for the day so far! Could this become the best transfer thread of all time?Stay tuned to find out!

It must be incredibly difficult being you and struggling with reading. I mean, how have you read what was typed out and come to the conclusion that I wanted us to pay more for him?

The question was: WHY is he cheap? Are there factors posters with knowledge who can point out why the price seems on the low side considering everything being said about him on here by the Tifo football wannabes?

Asking questions isn’t making demands, just for future reference.
He's cheaper than Raya because:

a. He's coming from a lower Italian team
b. He has 1 year left on his contract (something Brentford doesn't seem to realize about Raya)
c. He's not HG
d. GKs don't typically go for 30/40/50 million
e. Brentford are deluded with their price tag for Raya

Put it this way. I believe that if we had the choice of only spending big on 2/3 of Raya, Tapsoba and Maddison, I’m taking the latter 2 all day. Raya is not some generational goalkeeper. He’s not in the class of 2012 Lloris.

Of course not. But we need two first team quality CBs and a Goalie before we go spaffing money on Maddison.

Yes, we need someone like Maddison. But scoring goals is not an issue for us. Conceding is.

This is exactly right.

if for example we get Vicario for good money but then are prepared to splash the cash to get our #1 CB target, Tapsoba, that fits exactly what you just said.

If we end up with Adaraboiyo and Lenglet, then we know Levy is on a cheapskate one.

this guy’s had an absolute meltdown!

‘I’m on a shitload of BIG PODCASTS’

Lol :mourpointlaugh:

For some stupid reason I decided to watch LWOS when Ange got appointed and this same guy was on there.

He was crying about Ange being appointed because he hadn't done it in a big enough league, then said that his first choice was fucking Gallardo, who's only experience is in South America.

Then he literally took out a notebook and showed all the notes he had written to prove that he did his research when people said he didn't know what he was talking about.

His amazing research was him copying the Celtic wikipedia page and writing down the teams that Celtic had played and the results. Not actually watching the games to see how he sets his teams up or anything, just noting the results.

Well it appears that we have our goalie and you can’t tell me Raya is more than twice the player Vicario is unless you believe in the infinite superiority of the prem and that the ball is harder to save.

Quality defenders was the no1 issue and Tapsoba and Tosin would be great additions.

Get Dier, Sanchez, Tanganga and Rodon off the books (plus putting Barca on Mute when they try to flog us Lenglet) and I’d be very satisfied with a group of:

Tapsoba
Romero
Tosin
Davies
Dorrington

And Sarr and Emerson as emergency cover.

According to Gold our shopping list included…
GK
2x CBs
Attacking mid
Young winger.

looks like GK is done.

Wonder how much Tapsoba will cost? Haven’t seen any prices quoted yet.

Some rumors that Maddison’s destination will pick up once he’s back from holiday.

Would be great to get as much done as possible before Australia

Simon Jordan has claimed that Daniel Levy told him that Tottenham Hotspur aren’t interested in Newcastle United transfer target and Leicester City playmaker, James Maddison.

The former Crystal Palace owner, who is friends with the Tottenham chairman, added that James Maddison has an ’embarrassment of riches’ at his disposal, with Newcastle United also keen on his services.

Even though Jordan thinks the 26-year-old will ‘land at Tottenham’, he shared that Daniel Levy told him that the north London club ‘weren’t’ in for the England international this summer, as he told talkSPORT.

One thing is for certain, Spurs are in need of a creative midfielder because their defensive-minded set-up needs to be brought to life and Maddison can certainly get sparks flying.

In recent weeks, mixed reports have been coming out about the Englishman, all linking him to Tottenham, but at times, it’s Newcastle winning the race, then the London club.

Nonetheless, Jordan shared his thoughts on the relegated Leicester star and how others, such as Danny Murphy and Graeme Souness, have made him look and think of Maddison in a better light.

“I think he is a decent player, a good player,” said Jordan. “I don’t think he is the player people quite think he is.

“But I have sat across a room from Danny (Murphy) and Graeme Souness, who have both been top midfield players and they say the same thing that they think he is ‘top-draw’, with that in mind, I don’t push back against the notion that James Maddison is a top-draw player.

“He has an embarrassment of riches, if both of these two clubs (Tottenham and Newcastle) are in for him, and according to Daniel Levy they weren’t for James Maddison.”

When Jordan was asked ‘he told you that?’ to which he nodded his head and simply responded: “Yes, certainly on the level that was reported in the media, anyway.”

“If that is the case, then you have got two managers (Postecoglou and Howe) that I think are good managers to play for. One has got a toxic fanbase and needs a rebuild, whilst the other is in really good nick – I think either one of those clubs is a really good fit for James – and I think Tottenham is where he lands.”

Tottenham crying out for Maddison
The fact that Christian Eriksen left during the January transfer window of 2020, and went through everything he went through, yet to his day he hasn’t been replaced is pretty shambolic.

The same with the goalkeeping department, for a number of years, it has been obvious that Hugo Lloris needs replacing, yet it’s been free transfers, loan players or over-the-hill players that have joined to compete with the Frenchman.

You could make the same argument with the centre-back, the only time some effort was put into that was when Christian Romero arrived and it could be argued he is the club’s best defender, otherwise, Davinson Sanchez is still there, as well as Eric Dier, whilst Clement Lengelt was a loan deal that didn’t work out.

Spurs are crying out for Maddison, but given that Leicester will demand a big fee for their star man, then it’s pretty obvious that he won’t go to north London.
