Ex-Spurs Player Eric Dier

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Well, yeah. He was signed as a utility player for a cheap fee. That he became part of the spine is damning not for him, but for all the shit midfielders and defenders that couldn’t do better.
What's damning for him, is that he can't seem to see that he's being mugged off every game by forwards who target him.
He also won't leave because he earns too much at Spurs Vs what others would pay him at his actual level.

It's sad we've created this scenario and it's sad he's gone along with it.
What worries me is that he ups his game for a month or 2 and Ange things that's the "real" Eric Dier. It isn't, he has proven incapable of maintaining a high level.

scary when you have fans of the club who apparently watch every single minute of every game and they make excuses for a glaring weak link whos not only drowning but fucking dragging us down with him...

youd think these people dont want the club to be successful, they build emotional attachments to anyone who puts a spurs shirt on, quite pathetic really. would understand if they were kids.

Believe it or not the club are actually well aware what they put out on Twitter, they do read Tweets and so do the players so it wouldn't come as a complete surprise that they put this kind of content out to show Dier in a good light...like he's actually human and a good human at that and despite what you think of him as a footballer they probably believe that the personal abuse is a bit shitty and OTT.

I still find the reaction weird, some right dangers out there.

People are not denigrating him as a person or as a human being, they are denigrating his utter 'shiteness' as a DEF, week in week out brainfarts he consistently produces, his lack of awareness and positioning on the pitch the list goes on... and on and ariston .... and the fact is this has been going on for many a year now, many!

The club maybe aware what they are putting out on twatter but have they actually thought about it in this particular case? it has ' pelters ' written all over it and thats exactly the response received, partly the annoyance and rage of this is really meant for the club because we have been crying out for DEF especially CB's for 3/4 years now, a massive glaring gaping deficiency and its not been addressed. The huge majority want him and few others in DEF moved on ASAP purely because they are really really really not good enough, havent been for a long time and will never get better only the opposite.

well said!👏

No, he's not. He's been a starter for years and that's simply unacceptable. He started for a couple of seasons in CM and made relentless mistakes. He was then moved back to CB and carried on the relentless mistakes.
On top of that, he's wound up in the "leadership team" which is downright embarrassing.
He's barely premier league level, let alone the level of a club at least masquerading as a top 4/top 6 level.

And at the moment, somehow, he's still probably just about the best option we have to partner Romero. He isn't good enough to be a bench warmer as he can't be relied on when called on. That's how bad our defence is.
Did you just not understand the post or intentionally ignore it?

He's started and played such a large role in the squad because our scouting has been shit and all the players we've brought in to displace him have failed to do so.

The outrage shouldn't be directed at Dier, but at the club for not signing someone better than Dier. Just moving Dier out of the club doesn't improve the squad - you'd rather we play Sanchez?

Worse, we're gonna do it again by signing a young and unproven van de Ven or Tapsoba. Either of whom could easily flop. So, yeah, the club is unlikely to shift someone who has been in the dressing room longer than anyone else at this point and has played the majority of the club's matches in recent seasons.

It isn't his fault he's better than the other dross we currently have at CB - that's Levy's fault.

I'm well aware of this, the point is that the anger and rage turns into personal abuse, that's where the line is crossed.

That is twatter in a nutshell, it always ahs been, a way for people to whatever they want that they wouldnt say out loud normally, and its getting things off your chest when your angry to a friend for examples etc,, you will be explicit in the moment of anger, irritation and displeasure you says things in an unadulterated harsh manner even though thats not your actual intention.

Talksport is forum exploited by the media company to do the same thing in essence (without the swearing) pitting silly highly volatile callers against each other, other having deliberate dumbasses e.g. like Gabby Abhanlahor chatting complete waiting for callers to backlash on his most recent obtuse comment.... Twatter doesnt have the middleman aka the talksport host/so called experts, but provides the forum and they advocate it, no they bank on it figuratively and literally.

Plus when you in the public limelight getting paid millions and millions its part and parcel of it, sadly that is life, each profession has its own draw backs.

What's worse about it is they think they're the ones in the right and it's everyone else who is wrong.
Then again, I bet a lot of them are fickle as fuck and would happily throw any number of other players who they don't have a man-crush on under a bus.

So we should all sing his name and make out like we love him then?
He's shit and shitness has become endemic at Spurs. Acceptance of that by the fans is leading to shit players like that being here nearly 10 years.

So we either suck him off or cunt him off? No middle ground of not singing his name nor abusing him?

I don't get where you're coming from. He isn't good enough to start at CB for a top 4 club. But he's good enough to play a role in the squad we have. Until that changes, and we have 4 CBs under contract better than Eric Dier (we don't), what the fuck are you all banging on about him for? Give it a rest FFS.

He's been a great presence in the dressing room for a decade. Had some big moments for this club over the years. Never pissed and moaned about managers moving him all over the shop. Didnt kick up a fuss about moving when United wanted him.

It's disgraceful how some are treating him now, but it's no surprise. Spurs definitely has a healthy number of toxic fans, always happy to have a go at our own players like they did Danny Rose for having the audacity to sign a contract extension that was offered to him.

Jose once said Tottenham need to be nasty.
I think our fans need to be a bit nastier in voicing displeasure.
We're too soft and too sentimental. Have been for years. All this "he's Spurs through and through" etc. If a player is shit he's shit. I don't care who he supports. I want players who are good enough and do it week in week out.

Well you're welcome to be that kind of fan, I don't agree with you though. I'd rather support the team than tear it down.

I love Eric Dier, and Eric Dier loves me, ta.

I don’t care if he was signed for 5m or 50m.

Neither changes the fact that he is not good enough.

Don’t care if it’s Diers fault, the clubs fault, or Zomb s fault. Just find someone better please.

Dier is a hider. Some people only see the obvious mistakes that happen when players are active (Sanchez slipping for example, or Romero making a dumb challenge). But being passive to a fault is often an even bigger mistake.

It’s like thinking a goalkeeper that stays on his line for 10 breakaways never makes a mistake compared to a sweeper keeper who saves 9 breakaways from through balls before they even happen and fucks up once for a goal. Meanwhile, the keeper on his line gives up 7 goals in that same scenario but people blame the defense instead of the passive goalkeeper.

The amount of times dier backed off 20 yards and we conceded last year was so glaringly obvious that I can’t take the opinion seriously of anyone that still rates him.

The problem seems to be a misunderstanding. I haven't seen anyone in about 2 years say they rate Dier. No one is saying we ought to extend his contract and make him a Spurs man for life. And, for myself, I literally just said he isn't good enough to start for a top 4 club and only has a role because we don't have 4 CBs better than him under contract.

CBs under contract in descending order of confidence by successive Professional Football Managers Who Have Won Major Trophies™:

Romero
Dier [This is the problem - how high he is]
*Lenglet [Not under contract but may be likely]
Sanchez
Tanganga
Rodon

Switching to a 4 member back line, assuming we need 5 CBs in the squad, we can dump Rodon if we sign Lenglet. If we secure van de Ven, we sell Sanchez - this looks to be the step the club is working on.

If we sign another player capable of playing a role in a top PL squad in Ange's opinion (Tapsoba), we have 2 options:

A: Sell Dier, keep Tanganga. I don't like this option because Dier doesn't want to leave which makes it very difficult to pull off in the last year of his contract, and it puts us in the position of having to try and sell Tanganga next season in the exact same situation except Tanganga won't have played much.

Romero, Mickey, Tapsoba, Lenglet, Tanganga

B: Keep Dier and let the contract expire. Benefit from his presence in the dressing room, but as 3rd or 4th CB and no Europe he isn't playing much. Loan Tanganga out somewhere where he can play and build some sort of value to sell him next summer.

Romero, Mickey, Tapsoba, Lenglet, Dier

C: Don't sign Lenglet, sign Tosin instead. Keep Dier and loan Tanganga because we can't have Romero as the only experienced CB in the room.

Romero, Mickey, Tapsoba, Dier, Tosin

C is probably my favorite option, but I think we'll end up with B.
