I’m not disputing that Maddison is a decent (I wouldn’t go as far as to say sensational) signing. He’s the level of signing a club of our supposed stature should be making.

The reason I spoke about it in the way I did is because I was replying to a post specifically about signing Maddison for such a low fee.

One year left on contract, Leicester being relegated so player wants out.

Player probably 'flattered' to having been 'chased' by Spurs in past and hence very happy to join a club where he thinks he's appreciated.

Excellent signing (with great g/a) to overcome our lack of creativity.

Nothing more to be said on Maddison

I'd say he's between decent and sensational...but semantics, innit.

We signed Maddison because we were able to get him a cut price relegation tax deal and Levy supposedly is mates with his agent.

Do you think we would have got him if Leicester were still in the Premier League and a Saudi club were also sniffing a la Villa and Diaby? Would we fuck.

Why are we having to resort to made up scenarios?

Leicester did get relegated. Newcastle were interested. We got him.

Those are facts and whether or not those are the reasons we signed him, we still signed him. So what's your issue?

The Porro chat makes me laugh.

I saw fans begging Levy on here to sign him in January, and losing their shit when it nearly fell through. Now they're acting like it was a mistake. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

It's a blessing TFC aren't in charge of the clubs transfers.

We seem insanely uncoordinated, if this is true, bring the lad for a medical, then learn the fee is more than we expected.

Is there any transfer that we seem to not have problems with? With the rise on Newcastle and the ambition of Villa, unless Levy spends big we are in serious danger of returning to being a mid table club.

Kinda thought Solomom was an unambitious, cheap punt when we signed him... but been very impressed by his touch, speed and shooting in the WH game and training vids. Looks a bright pick-up, and a player with hopefully his best football in front of him.

Bentancur
Vicario
Udogie
Bissouma
Perisic
Richalrlison
Royal

Off the top of my head.

You make out like we are the only club that ever has problems doing transfers, which is obviously not true in any way shape or form.

How can we even bring a player in for a medical if we haven't agreed a fee?

Surely the club he's contracted to, Blackburn in this case, has to agree to their player undergoing a medical?

This is all very strange.

Agreed.

Blackburn announced a new 'sponsorship' deal with Venkys (owners0 within hours of the first reports of Phillips coming to Spurs.

Given the reports that the medical was carried out (to which Blackburn must have consented) the fact that they were gifted more money just after the transfer became public makes me wonder if Blackburn decided to move the goalposts on price, possibly with a view to get an auction going with other clubs involved. All conjecture but I do smell a rat

I think the main reason some bigger clubs weren’t interested is that if he’s not cutting in and shooting, he’s got little creativity or history of creating assists. If he can add this, maybe we found a gem.

Yes. If there's a release fee clause in Phillips' contract, then we meet that amount & we can proceed with the medical. Surely the figure, & payment terms (eg lump sum or schedules), is there in black & white.

If there isn't such a clause, then we need to agree a fee with Blackburn before any medical can take place.

The new Blackburn ownership situation does have shades of Villa being taken over & our Grealish deal being scuppered. But that did not involve a release fee clause, with Grealish's £100m clause being inserted into his bumper new Villa contract post-takeover.
