Player Djed Spence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He was signed on the advice of the DoF/scouting department.

Conte, literally, sanctioned the deal.

"Spence is an investment of the club,” Conte said. “The club wanted to do it. I said okay, this player is young but he showed he can become a good, important player for us.

Levy acted on that and completed the deal.
Conte's actions suggest that he did not think Spence was ready for the team.

The Conte statement at the press conference was Conte stating publicly this was not my signing.

Interpreting it as Conte accepting responsibility for the signing is embellishment.

It was a Levy signing.

Like Rodon and Gil.

Conte explained this on numerous occasions. A club signing.

Actual quote:

Conte: "Spence is an investment of the club,” Conte said. “The club wanted to do it. I said okay, this player is young but he showed he can become a good, important player for us."

Levy is supposedly very close to his agent and drove the deal.

Get your facts right, Thomas..... Levy is buddies with the higher up(s) at Boro so it made sense for a 'friendly face' to negotiate the deal... Nothing to do with his agent.

You did it again. The only sensible thing is your use of the word allegedly. It neither (as you say) disproves nor proves anything. We brought a guy for a coach who needed development said coach wanted no part of this. Can't you see that both things can be true. For example he could have done the same to Bale it would not have proved Bale was no good just not what he wanted. Is it the internet that has caused this desperate need in posters to have such empty binary narratives. It's foolish.
Can you not see that two coaches have deemed that Spence is not good enough, regardless of development ?
One of which has no axe to grind .

It's foolish for posters to try and deny this.

All clubs bring in younger, speculative players — even those managed by ‘win now’ managers. That you don’t understand that shows how little you know about football.
Stick to frothing at the mouth over Levy and repeating boring motifs.

Correct, he was supposed to be one for the future.
The Conte statement at the press conference was Conte stating publicly this was not my signing.
Correct, , Conte also stated explicitly that he was asked about the transfer, and ok'd the transfer.

Interpreting it as a signing that Conte was against us pure lies.
It was a Levy signing.

Like Rodon and Gil.
It was a club signing.
The same as Phillips is.
A signing for the future.

Could Conte have said that Spence was not good enough for the team at that press conference?

He was employed as Spurs manager and had to answer the questions being asked.

You interpreted the events as follows;

You appear to be suggesting that everything hinged on Conte approving the signing.

Not being against a signing is not the same as endorsing it.

Conte did not rate Spence enough to give him game time despite Royal having an absolute mare.

Actions speak louder than words.

I am definitely suggesting that Conte approved the signing.

There are many examples of players being signed/not signed according to the managers wishes.

Van der Vaart
Coutinho
Tielamans (spelling?? Leicester)

being just a few examples, apart from Spence

Sorry Stevee.

But no way mate.

I can only interpret it as Conte was being diplomatic about the signing of Spence, at a press conference, because his only other choice was to detach himself completely from it or refuse to comment.

I have no dog in this fight because I was against the appointment of Conte from the start and hated the style of play even when we were winning.

Spence was never a player that Conte wanted in my opinion.

He publicly backed the clubs decision to sign Spence but never picked him for the side despite Royal's struggles.

No way Levy signed Spence due to Conte's input.

That is a stretch.

I don’t think anyone is denying who completed the deal.

Here’s some other top secret news: Alfie Devine and Ash Phillips are also club signings.
My guess is that Marquinhos, the 19 year old winger that Woolwich signed last year, was a ‘club signing’.

I think you’re going to find that EPL clubs tend to buy a mixture of specific players asked for by the manager (like Ivan Perisic), players that fit a specific profile asked for by the manager( like Van Der Ven) — a club signing if not specifically named by the manager? — and other more speculative signings.
Managers like Conté — win now guys — are never going to ask for younger players with potential. They want the Perisics.

If you want to argue that Spence doesn’t appear to be good enough even if he appeared to fit the right profile then that’s a different argument. I’d say the jury is out right now.

Woolwich have just signed Declan Rice.

Spurs are attempting to sell Harry Kane.

I have no opinion on Spence other than it was another signing of this type that so far hasn't worked out.

The strategy is no longer yielding results.

Rodon, Clarke, Sessegnon and Spence stalled or went backwards at Spurs.

You'd like that wouldn't you...... That's not how this works though.

I'll continue to call your BS out when I see fit..... Much like plenty of others will & indeed do.

You mean you wish I couldn't see through you?

I bet you do.
Everyone on here has your number.

How could they not?

I shout spite you spout shite.

Good luck with the positive spin.
