Player Heung-Min Son (손흥민)

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Reposting from the match thread cause it's relevant to the discussion:

Son in 75 minutes (well more like 86' if we're couting the extra time) had 2 crosses (0 accurate), and 2 dribble attempts (1 successful). 0.05 expected assists.

Perisic in 15 minutes had 3 crosses (1 accurate), and 3 dribble attempts (3 successful). 0.16 expected assists.

Son should be creating when the ball isn't in play?????

Piss off with this silly agenda shit.

I think naming him captain was a mistake, only because it makes it near impossible to drop him, and he was one of our worst starters last season.

I’d like to see him rotating at ST and LW, but not necessarily starting at either. It’d have been better if he were sold.

At LW though he doesn’t need an overlapping fullback taking space from him. Our current system would benefit more from having a Royal type out left, and an overlapping WB out right to provide width for Kulu to cut inside on his left.

None of this is going to be resolved in this window though so let’s all be prepared for some extremely frustrating attacking play this first half of a season. Maybe Gil can return and play LW for us with Son up top, though I can only really see that happening if Richy gets injured, which would be bad for us.

Son always struggle against deep blocks - even in 21/22 season when he was at his best I remember games like watford away where he was completely useless (except that delivery from free kick for a goal). So i give him benefit of doubt today - but i hope that he either improves or Ange drops him without hesistation. We cannot drag him through The games like Conte did last year.

This game didn't fill me with confidence that he can play as a winger in this system, but I would imagine that he was appointed as captain because Ange saw a role for him in the team.

Also it is Brentford, the best deep block/counter-attacking team in the league. Most teams will struggle against them.

For this system, he should be utilized as a striker and play Richie on the left...I think that would benefit both players.

Yeah, a lot of people have been bitching about Conte since yesterday because of how well Bissouma was, but seeing Brentford's performance has actually made me respect him a bit more.

I do think he's a good manager still, the problems last season were mainly due to external factors. Also the fact that he's emotionally unstable which is the main reason why no one has hired him.
I think it was a big mistake to sign him for two years. It would have been better to pass on bringing in Conte than have the narrative from Day 1 be that he wouldn't stay. I think the players knew that and quit on him in Season 2.

When Son did move toward the center a few times the attack looked better. It's frustrating because I think Son is back to health and could still be dangerous. But if he's going to be stuck that far wide all season you might as well start thinking about moving him on.

Maybe a hot take and I might not get the best reactions from his but.....After the departure of Harry Kane I feel like Tottenham need to cash in on Son.

He is undoubtedly a club legend and will probably go down as one of the best Spurs players ever. However after last seasons poor showing (IMO) along with Kane now leaving, I think it is very evident that Son is a part of Spurs past and not the future.

At a time where Saudi Arabia is offering obscene money for players, I feel as thought their is a big payday to be made with Son which would allow Tottenham the use of even more funds to attract talent and rebuild the team.

Now with that being said I AM NOT saying that Son won't win games for Tottenham this season and maybe even have moments of magic. Regardless though I just think that if the idea is to rebuild the club then you might as well just go all in. Son was the Robin to Kane's Batman, and I am not sure I see Son carrying the load on his own.

Then again, this is an outside fans opinion so maybe I am out of my depths but just sharing my opinion.

He actually already refused the Saudis, some players just don't want to go there.

Fair play, did not know he refused to go there. Regardless I am sure there would be multiple clubs interested and willing to pay a good fee.

Son is quality but I just wonder if their is a window of opportunity that might be missed by holding on to him longer then Tottenham should have (following Kane departure).

It wouldn't go down well in his homeland if he moved to Saudi Arabia especially when he's still relatively young and has dozens of sponsorships. Also quite telling when only a club in Saudi is putting in an official bid for him. He now moves like he's closer to 40 than 30. I don't know what happened to him but it's evident that he's past it and would be in the club's best interest to move him on while he still has a reputation of being a good player, although people are slowly catching on to his steep decline.
