Agree on the past Kane. We needed to get past that stage.

We should though have identified a successor and last season showed that whatever qualities Rucharlison may have, scoring goals does not seem to be one of them!

But yep, now we are in a Kaneless era but for fcuk sake that is not to say we should also be in a strikerless one.

We don’t tend to operate like that. We are more opportunistic in the market, looking for players on 1 year left on their deal etc.

Expect movement at the end of the window I reckon as prices come more into our favour.

That thumbnail..

My word I've missed players with a touch like that.
Most of ours look like a 3 year old playing keepyuppy with a fucking beach ball.
The days of Dembele, Berbatov, VdV, King, Modric etc who could control a ball feel long long behind us now.

Without doubt the worst offender by miles was Moura.
"Yeah but he works hard and never stops running"
Yeah. After the balls HE miscontrolled

I don't see us spending 55-60m on a player from another league under this ownership, or at least not any time soon. Firmly believe that the Ndombele saga burnt Levy bad to the point where he'll only pull the trigger on players where he knows what we're getting.

Don't necessarily disagree with your second point, but we'll need to adapt. For the EPL transfer fees have changed to the point where we either pay:
  • through the nose for English HG players
  • substantial fees for good/great players from other European clubs
  • a premium for high potential youngster.
  • 5-10m for completely unknown young punts from South America
In other words the whole market is fucked.

Didnt we already do that with Romero

Thing is, 3 Spurs head-coaches plus Rennes head-coach believed otherwise. Which is why neither of them gave him any (game time).

Loaned to Rennes as their RB and captain out injured, initially thought to be a long time.

Spence played about 10 games in that half season until captain came back from injury unexpectedly early - but that 10 games included several games where Spence played very well including beating PSV 2-0 in Paris with Spence marking Mbappe who didn't get a sniff and neither did Messi. So Rennes coach was certainly not disappointed in him as you suggest

Problem at Spurs very simply has been Conte - just hates youngsters only wants to play established players, and so played Royal a defensive full back totally unsuited for the attacking RB role he was played in so managing to screw up both Royal and Spence confidence whilst demanding club buy Porro. Porro was vastly over priced but club did buy him (imo a mistake) - great at attacking but liability in defence as we've all seen.

So the problem since then very simply is there are 3 RB's - Royal who has improved, particularly since Conte left, in being 'ok' in attack but still good defensively, Porro who is excellent in attack and still a liability in defence and Spence who lacks experience and atm isn't better than either Royal or Porro in attack or defence, but might with coaching be a very good RB in both attack and defence.

We also have a bloated squad - so its probably no benefit to squad to try to move Porro to RW.(particularly as we are also moving Perisic to being a forward as he is is equally useless in defence as Porro), to give Spence the opportunity to develop as a RB.

So its obvious given Spurs bloated squad that we need to loan out or sell Spence this window as squad is too big. But if he goes to a lower PL club, he will very possibly flourish if he gets his head down and isn't feeling burned by his spurs experience.

Another day of dithering fuck allness from baldy.

Getting pretty close to deadline day let downs now.

Jeeez, man; you really think your twitter feed was gonna be on fire by 9.30 am?

"Is it xmas yet?
"No, little Johnny..... It's November!"
"How about now?
"No.... It's been a half an hour!!!"

Man has really lived off 1 Van de Vaart for 20 odd years.

What is this.......? No good players since VDV?

.....Or even before; seeing as you're chatting about 20 years (2003)?

One deadline day signing that ended up decent and 20 odd years of leaving it until deadline day and not getting important bits of business done.

I think we would buy them but at nowhere near the prices quoted. As I said before levy won’t part with that money for potential but I’m all for it to be honest. It’s all rumours anyway so the likelihood is we aren’t in for any never mind both.
If all the rumours were true it would make more sense to get those two for the same price as Brennan Johnson.

So it IS at least partially about the price-tag then? .....And "potential" is the over-riding factor in your argument?

Which is what I questioned in my 1st post.... We're back to square one!!!

Levy's detractors claim he's only interested in signing potential in hope of big re-sale (even Ndombele & GLC get characterised as such).......... I mean the latter part about re-sale is a myth, but most of our best trf business has been based upon exploiting the "high ceiling" market.

20m is fuck all in todays market........ We spent 40m pre-Neymar quid on a CB from Eridivisie (on the basis of some Europa games)........ We spent 30m (all things considered) on Sess who'd only done it in the champo (and had already failed an EPL audition once).... We literally just bought Veliz.

I struggle to see were the difference is.... 20-30m aren't big fees these days.

Agree with everything here. Loan to Palace would be a great move, if his attitude and application are up to scratch I think he'd flourish.
