Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

In every game he looks like scoring or getting an assist, and has ridiculous pace. His all round play has been lacking and he seems to drift in and out of games. Very much a mixed bag so far, but his Spurs career has been stop start so I’m willing to give him time. I agree with others that he’s better on the right.

He seems to trigger one or two on this forum. Not sure why.

Comparing his transfer fee to a player signed in 2017 has no relevance with todays market.

IMO he has potential, has done pretty well overall and will improve on the areas he needs to. Maybe bulk up a little. We will see.

but they aren't really, are they?
all people say is he's young and he'll get better

what I am asking is for people to show me something in his game (right now) that gives them the confidence that makes them feel that way.

I'm not challenging you, I genuinely want to understand. From memory, you seem to be his biggest advocate and I can't remember you pointing out one solid piece of evidence, that when I see it - I'll have a light bulb moment. So I'm not ignoring what you or others have said at all.

Yeah, I really hide on here don't I?
you were trying to pass his shot at Pickford offas an assist to Son, so your opinions on the guy don't hold too much water

That's not what I wrote or what several others wrote so my point stands, you haven't read what people see in him because you aren't interested.

Didn't read the rest. Looked a bit long but thanks for the effort. I'm sure it was great.

I’m not too fussed by him so far and wasn’t excited when we got him. Having said that he is young and was probably earmarked as one for next season

I'm happy to learn, what the hell are you lot seeing in him?
I genuinely hope he proves me wrong, but at the moment he has been pretty disappointing in my view.
He provided an assist that was entirely possible because of Sarr's either amazing (or fortunate) pass that put him in the clear and beyond that was largely invisible.
He doesn't appear to have the speed or skill to skin a fullback, nor the presence and combatative nature to add to defensive phases of a game. If all of our players were fit and in form, I don't see him getting a start, Solomon is a better player and he was free.
He cost 10 million more than Liverpool signed Salah for.

I just don't get why some of you think he has this hidden talent that is going to flower into a Salah esque player. And yes - I am aware that Salah didn't set the world on fire when he emerged onto the scene

but rest assured, I really hope you are all justified in your belief in him, but currently - I would say he isn't delivering on his transfer fee.
I literally said what I see in him in my post.

well, that was mature

I post that I'm keen to see what I'm missing - and you tell me I'm not interested in finding out???

Do you see why that might make me think that you are more anxious to insult me, than you are to actually answer the question? It makes you look like you don't actually have any tangible proof, but are going on gut instinct - or blind faith.

So let me try again, please reference incidents that show me what I'm missing that gives you this unwavering conviction.

"He's raw but has so much potential, that's obvious for anyone watching. Explosive, powerful runner, just needs to work on his link up and final ball."

All I did was ask for some examples of this - because I have no recollection of any of this explosive - let alone powerful running, if I had - then I would agree about the potential.

Traore at Wolves was what I would class as an explosive and powerful runner, because he was like a raging bull. I would say Johnson was reasonably nippy, but cant remember occasions when he sprinted past defenders with the ball at his feet, or even watching him knock the ball past anyone and beat them in a footrace.

so I challenge your proposition that it's obvious for anyone watching

Looks like scoring or assisting every time he plays. Actually scores or assists almost every time he plays.
Has raw pace and ability.

Young and needs to improve but the signs that he will improve are clearly there.

Does that help?

He's scored with one tap in - assists every time?
He has one goal and 3 assists credited to him in 16 games that he's participated in.
You, like others talk about potential, and so I'll reiterate my previous point, that at the moment we need gladiators, fighters and contestants.
To me he seems too frail, like Gil, and he's passive and tentative.
We don't play Veliz, Donley etc They are supposed to be full of potential, so why are we gambling on him?

Read what I wrote again

Good player at times but he needs to toughen himself up a bit, he plays like he is afraid to get hurt.
Sure must be why Johnson played with 16 stitches on his forehead against Blue Scouse - (after going off on a concussion protocol against Forest) and showed up to his Spurs Play post game interview with a taped up ankle - But hey on a separate note, you be careful not hurt your fingers typing on that keyboard. 🤣🤣

I just said, he provided an assist, one that Stevie Wonder could have managed
Sure - you undoubtedly provide assists of better quality all the time in your Sunday league games.

Watch it again bruv - it was a really good assist - good run to get the excellent through ball from Sarr then seeing Richy make his short run and putting it on a plate for Richy while Johnson was running at pace.

If you’re hating on that assist you’ve obviously just decided you don’t like Johnson for whatever reason - to each his own. But even if you think he’s been terrible (which I disagree with). Little early to write him off in my opinion. Time will tell.

People saying 16 games like he’s played 90 mins in each one. He has played 689 minutes for us which is less than 8 full games, in several positions for a new team. 1 goal and 3 assists are not bad stats. I want to see far more from him outside some positive moments in the final third, but his goal contributions are fine for a new player.

If you think we’ve spent £40 odd million on Johnson and aren’t going to give him plenty of time, you’re off your rocker.

He’ll be with us and playing for years. Deal with it.

Far too early to be making a judgment on him (although I accept that the fickle nature of some of our “fans” means that some will try to do so)

Not sure why there is so much debate over him. He’s a player that is technically lacking but he has good positional sense (in the attacking end at least) and is about as fast as you can get.
