Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Happy to be corrected but he’s still young and I’ve seen enough to give him time.

He looks like scoring or assisting EVERY TIME he’s played for us.

He’s still very much learning the system and the game but he’s got output already.

Was skeptical at first but I’m not sure why people have an issue with what we are getting. He’s got to improve but he’s very clearly going to.

He’s got potential, he’s young and he’s British; that’s why he cost 47.5m. Raheem Sterling posted similar stats the year before he made the move to City at a much better Liverpool side and he cost around the same. Sterling also didn’t have a stellar first year at City and while Johnson is on target to hit the same no. Of assists as Sterling in his first season, he’s behind on the goals but he’s been very close on a number of occasions now. Son will be gone for a while next year so he’ll have to step up his goal output.

Next year will be the real test. If the goal is to score approx. 80-90 goals in an EPL season, our two wingers really need to be shooting for between 10-15 goals.

Job is to stay wide, create space for other runners, and provide threat in behind. So he won't be involved all the time.

Assist for the first goal.
Key play leading to second goal.
Almost scored from Emerson's cross first half.

Yeah but apart from the assist, creating another goal, almost scoring himself and generally being a threat in behind, what did he actually do?

played on the right I like him,
he needs to learn how to play on the left (just in case we need to put him there sometimes But not have play there most of the time)
he needs to man-up a bit in the final third, not backout of a challenge

He's raw but has so much potential, that's obvious for anyone watching. Explosive, powerful runner, just needs to work on his link up and final ball.

He'll prove to be a brilliant signing, and is already contributing a lot in terms of g/a.

He is way to safe and needs to do more in his general play.

I'm happy to learn, what the hell are you lot seeing in him?
I genuinely hope he proves me wrong, but at the moment he has been pretty disappointing in my view.
He provided an assist that was entirely possible because of Sarr's either amazing (or fortunate) pass that put him in the clear and beyond that was largely invisible.
He doesn't appear to have the speed or skill to skin a fullback, nor the presence and combatative nature to add to defensive phases of a game. If all of our players were fit and in form, I don't see him getting a start, Solomon is a better player and he was free.
He cost 10 million more than Liverpool signed Salah for.

I just don't get why some of you think he has this hidden talent that is going to flower into a Salah esque player. And yes - I am aware that Salah didn't set the world on fire when he emerged onto the scene

but rest assured, I really hope you are all justified in your belief in him, but currently - I would say he isn't delivering on his transfer fee.

Solomon is a better player than Johnson? Yeh ok mate.

If you were happy to learn you'd have read the posts in this thread explaining what people are seeing on him.

But you ignored those posts because you don't have any interest in seeing it at all.

but they aren't really, are they?
all people say is he's young and he'll get better

what I am asking is for people to show me something in his game (right now) that gives them the confidence that makes them feel that way.

I'm not challenging you, I genuinely want to understand. From memory, you seem to be his biggest advocate and I can't remember you pointing out one solid piece of evidence, that when I see it - I'll have a light bulb moment. So I'm not ignoring what you or others have said at all.
He only posted in the match thread to tell us how shit he thinks Johnson is (again). Of course he was nowhere to be seen when Johnson was playing well and providing an assist.
Yeah, I really hide on here don't I?
you were trying to pass his shot at Pickford offas an assist to Son, so your opinions on the guy don't hold too much water

Drifted in and out of the gane but still made two important contributions.

He needs to work on his consistency. If he can do that and add some aggression into his attacking (like he did with that missed chance yesterday) and bust a gut to get involved we will have a player on our hands. Does he have that is the question because that’s what separates the good PL players from the great ones.
