Kane is the difference -If top and bottom both had Kane as CFs it's even. I dont know how you recify that as there is a dearth of recognisable CF talent out there.
If we are talking world 11 first team, Modric, Bale, and Kane are the only ones we’ve had in the modern era. Son and Walker at certain peaks of form joins that crew. Walker after he left us really.

Gazza the next before this era.

Romero and Udogie have a legit chance to join that group in the near future.

There are others like Dele that could have been and a few in this current group that could make jumps to get there: Vicario, Porro, VDV, Sarr but it’s insanely difficult to read that level

No, a bit overrated.

He’s had a (short) freak period where he’s scored way more than he normally does. It’ll be over soon and he’ll be forgotten once again.

To be perfectly clear:

Scott McTominay is a shit footballer.

Scott McTominay does not score.

Scott McTominay does not assist.

Scott McTominay has got more career yellows than goals and assists combined, for fucks sake

Scott McTominay scored 1 in 24 last year and 1 in 30 the year before that.

Scott McTominay, in his 190 PL games, has assisted a goal 3 times in total (THREE).

Scott McTominay being a Man Utd-regular is one of the reasons Utd were once great and are now a joke.

Shame on Scott McTominay. Shame on you.

:bentancurpoint:
Are you mugging me off :nawty:

Jokes aside I try not to just label players shit.

He's a DM who happens to have great technique when striking the ball and a nack of being effective and composed in the box. He has scored more goals than you mentioned. He would be more effective as a box to box player.

Is Bissouma shit because he has more red cards than goals or assists in his entire Spurs career, of course he isn't.

This he's shit thing about every player who ain't a an absolute elite dribbler or gets 15GAs is ridiculous. he's a decent Premier league player.

So one really bad year can punish you 3 years in a row?

managements job is to manage everything including all the costs in the business

So if management, who should know and understand the ffp/sustainability rules is incompetent or ignores the rules and incurs huge costs in one year than yes it could screw the club a couple of times - they are the rules all the PL clubs agreed including Everton.

Worth debunking a couple of lies - all costs relating to stadium adjusted so as not to affect the ffp result, everton's claimed covid costs excluded from the calculation were about 2 or 3 times higher than any other clubs etc. So Everton's management incurred huge costs they knew or should have known would fail ffp/sustainability rules their club had agreed to !

Same as being caught doing 150 mph on a uk motorway - its not a defence to say 'ooh I didn't realise there was a speed limit'

We had a midfield with Christian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele, and peak Dele Alli in it just 6 years ago. We don’t have that quality today.

We had Bale and Modric 10 years ago. We must aspire to that level and beyond again.

This project has the potential to really become special but we must not settle for scraps or very good. We need all timers. That’s all I will say. We need to raise our standards, all of us. The world class midfield centerpiece is what will take us to the next level. The trophy lifting level.
5 players, all of whom we took before they were big names. We made them big names, we didn't buy World Class.

We're doing pretty much the same with our crop of Bentancur, Sarr, Maddison (already established but has gone up a level with us), And Bissouma.

The difference is that we are in a position to keep them now, with contracts.to reflect that.

Which Premier League team has gone out and bought a 'World Class' midfielder in the past few years?

Maddison can do everything Eriksen did and tbh more.

Bentancur is on a level with Dembele as an all round CM. Nobody ever was on a level with Moose for ball carrying but he could never do what Bentancur just did vs UTD.

We didn’t have a Sarr or Bissouma in that squad. Fair enough we don’t have a Dele but he was as much a forward as he was a CM.

I get what you are saying but I don’t think this MF unit capable of less than the Poch years.

As for Modric, the guy won Ballon d’Or, we might never see a CM like that again at this club.
There's a lot of revisionism with regards to Dele. He was a moments player. If I had a pound for every time I saw "FFS Dele!" on a match thread, or fans clamouring for him to be substituted, only to pop up with a goal, I'd be a rich man. He was never World Class, he never even reached his own potential.

Eriksen was superb for us, as was Moose, but both achieved that level with us, not prior. Same with Kane, same with Modric, same with Bale.

We have a core of 4, of which 3 I am convinced will be WC within a season or 2.

We don't need a WC midfielder at all.

Potentially, but the flip side is, you can have a bad year and you've got one or two to rectify it.

The bottom line is, you can only post losses of 35m a year. It's not the hardest thing in the world for clubs to manage their accounts. And you can balance it outer three years by selling players.

Everton took the utter piss, they posted losses of over 250m I think, in a three year period.

The thing I don't agree with is, FFP doesn't allow owners to cover those losses with capital gift if they want to.

Modric and Bale only.

When it counts tbey have shown they can deliver.

I have Jonathan Rowe on my list of about 4 great British prospects.
Can't remember why!

[Gold] also just mentioned Johnathon Rowe at Norwich as one we're interested in.

Reminds me a bit of Eze.

Yep. Saw this showreel before.
Very impressive. 2 footed, strong skilful and quick-ish.

In my opinion the idea that dele was never that good is also revisionism
As he moved further up the pitch in his third and fourth season that moments player was certainly a frustrating aspect

But his first 2 seasons at the club were absolute quality, dribbling, passing, pressing, hard work a bit of pace, incredible vision.
He was looking next level, think Poch Iscariot ruined him somewhat as well as dele ruining himself
