Is there anyone in the under 21s who can play left back?

Surely that’s why we have that team there.

Not really.

But positions really shouldn't be so rigid. A competent footballer who's comfortable receiving the ball and moving into a number 10 position but can also cover the left side should be able to do a job as an inverted left back. We play a CM at LB in the youth because he fits the profile of what we play.

Lee Carsley has got it massively right with the England youth team. Positions don't exist to him. If you have attributes that suit a certain position, you're good enough to play there.

It's why I don't think Lo Celso at LB in this particular set up is a terrible idea from a suitability point of view. However, I think his height may be an issue, we're already tiny.

Were not playing a prime chelsea bankrolled by a shady russian. Were playing an inexperienced chelsea side. I exoect us to win or at least not lose
Tbh im not sure players match ange heights mentality wise. Thats what hes trying to change. For too long weve been a nice payday club that might get an international call up and place in europe. Ange wants more than that.

IMO we'll see Royal as LB - no reason to play Van de Venn there which must weaken our CB partnership if he's moved from there. Dragusin is more of a right footer, but I'm sure Ange will think through the implications of playing Van de Venn as LB and playing Dragusin as LCB - and whether than changes are beneficial.

The LW position is more tricky - no Werner, no Solomon and an ineffective Gil. Yes Ange might be able to manage with Son, Richarlison, Kulusevski and Johnson (4 players for 3 positions) but that leaves us with a thin bench and besides which I'm not sure if Richarlison is 100% fit.

I do wonder if Scarlett starts as LW and as bench options its between Donley, Santiago (been on bench a few times) and Moore all of whom might benefit from a few minutes. But all 3 might feature in an important u21 game being played at the same time !

Dragusin might get pissed off soon if hes not playing. Particularly as were leaking goals. Vicario needs competition for his place as well. Address that in the summer.

I see no reason why it wouldn't be Johnson - Son - Kulusevski.

Exact same front three as the home fixture against them.

Richarlison, Gil and probably Moore on the bench. Would probably have been Donley or Santiago but they will be with the U21s I imagine.

We probably have 14 or 15 first team players who are good enough and fit Ange style with Lo Celso, Royal, Davies et al either not good enough (eg Lo Celso) or not fitting style (Royal) making up the numbers.

In the summer we will not be buying 8 players to fill the squad - Ange couldn't integrate them (Poch's problem at Chelsea includes too many new players ), nor can we identify that number who would fot together and nor do we have the finances to buy quality players so we will buy probably 4 - 6 who are good enough quality and fit Ange style, leaving a couple of players to make up numbers, which then gives Ange around 20 players plus a couple of squad players which gives him much more resilience against injury/loss of form etc .
