Match Chelsea vs Tottenham. Thursday the 2nd of May. 19:30 KO

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I have this sinking feeling we’ll outplay them for 55 minutes, be frustratingly held to a draw, and then get pumped on the counter.

I would try a midfielder there....but probably not against Chelsea or Liverpool. It will be Emerson anyway I suspect.

It just illustrates how bad our recruitment has even been at the youth levels though that we dont have an option there.

Youth recruitment is probably even more complicated than first team recruitment - its usually done 5 years before players are in u21's and of course its not always possible to foresee the playing style so we might still recruit a Royal (decent FB but not for Ange style).

ATM Spurs have a number of decent forwards coming through in youth, but are light in some other positions, hence playing a CM as FB as in Angeball its the correct skill set.

I still think it's more incompetence than conscious bias; but it seriously fucks me off much the same.
I think it could be as little as subconsciously thinking the team at the top is just that tiny bit more professional/well trained… he’s a good athlete, he’d never do that…

I’d argue in our historic case, David Ginola was denied several penalties whilst briefly at Tottenham and I can only think a nugget of doubt in the officials’ minds was… “Oh, it’s David Ginola”, coupled with, “David Unsworth’s an honest lad”, so that threshold of what’s a foul goes up… the little kick that is a penalty becomes a, “needs more contact to go down like that”.

Is that bias at speed and under pressure leading to incompetence?

I don’t know enough about it.

With Davies and Werner out, and with Romero showing his competence out of defence, I would play

.....................................Vicario................................
Porro..........Dragusin.............VDV.........Royal
.....................................Romero.............................
...................Sarr.......................Kulusevski...........
Johnson.................Richarlison...............Son

Fat chance though

Careful, there was a lot of 'tin foil' being thrown around last night. Anyone who doesn't ignore the mounting evidence will be laughed at and there may even be pointing.

IMO we'll see Royal as LB - no reason to play Van de Venn there which must weaken our CB partnership if he's moved from there. Dragusin is more of a right footer, but I'm sure Ange will think through the implications of playing Van de Venn as LB and playing Dragusin as LCB - and whether than changes are beneficial.

The LW position is more tricky - no Werner, no Solomon and an ineffective Gil. Yes Ange might be able to manage with Son, Richarlison, Kulusevski and Johnson (4 players for 3 positions) but that leaves us with a thin bench and besides which I'm not sure if Richarlison is 100% fit.

I do wonder if Scarlett starts as LW and as bench options its between Donley, Santiago (been on bench a few times) and Moore all of whom might benefit from a few minutes. But all 3 might feature in an important u21 game being played at the same time !
Scarlett starts at LW????? In what universe are you in?🤣🤣🤣🤣

I just hope our squad turn up on Thursday with a more positive outlook than this thread, otherwise we’re F**ked! 🫣😂

The players have a very positive outlook. That’s not the issue.

I’m sure I could find some super positive statements before Fulham, Newcastke and Woolwich games within a few minutes of googling.

This lot can always talk the talk.

The problem is when they actually get onto the pitch and have to walk the walk they do fuck all.

Saying that let’s be positive anyway for any Chelsea fans visiting.

5-0 Spurs. Kulusevski all 5. With his right foot.
