Sport is competition that relies on human capital. Hiring in any field is a crapshoot.

Compare it with a restaurant that spends 5k on some equipment… you know ahead of time what that equipment will do for you. The risk is much diminished. Humans though - much less predictable. Having conviction just won’t cut it.

Same with our club. A stadium has much more certain returns than a £50m midfielder. There is a lot more risk with players.

The first transfer here in the list of all time record signings that was definitely a success is number 16 - Gareth Bale: Transfer records

It’s probable that Rice and Bellingham will also turn out to be successes. That’s 3 players in the top 16? It’s an unbelievably bad return in spending big.

The same would apply to Tottenham as a club.

This shit is hard and if you have limited resources you need luck. Or…you increase your resources. Which is what we’ve done and the only way we can compete long term. Well done Levy on the strategy.
Then when you get a star you better not sell them as replacing them is almost impossible, but we have sold our 3 that fit that bill . You can’t have it both ways , if buying a superstar talent is difficult retaining them becomes essential even if that means contracts running down .

Kane runs down his contract we get top 4 , extra CL money is a decent offset , but we sold him .

Why would we need KWP???

We need to aim higher than that.
the thing is, very few players of higher quality would want to come knowing they are second fiddle to Udogie or Porro. KWP can play both sides which is very rare, cares about the club, counts towards Home Grown for Euro compos, probably wouldnt cost a bomb... sensible signing if you ask me

We need to aim higher than that.
We need players that are classed as club trained in the squad for the Europa League. UEFA demands that we have at least 8 homegrown players. Of which some have to have come through the club's own academy.

Which is why I don't think that Skipp will be sold unless we need to sell for pure profit at some point. He seems happy being a rotiational option for now.

I’ve literally no confidence that we’ll find the right players we need to win us a title. We’re just so so far off the top.
I think we need to consider the harder FFP rules coming into play too!

I think we will be one of the biggest winners in that sense. Clubs like ManC, Chelski, PSG etc. won't be able to spend like they did.

Sure they will reap the benefits of what they have assembled for some years further, but the gap should get closer.

I think transfer fees and wages will go down slowly now.
