So we're now using Fulham as our benchmark

I am going to say it I cannot see us making another signing this summer. It has too much of the feeling of the summer of 2018.

The problem is Daniel will not pay the asking price for a player because he always has to win the deal no matter what.

Take this Solanke situation if we want he should have been signed before the Tour because he was not selected for England. We have no competitors to sign him but we will not pay what Bournemouth want.

This is why we are stuck at the ceiling point where we will never probably go much further than 5th place. The fact is we got lucky under Poch. Harry emerged as one of the greatest players on the planet and a lot of other gambles paid off. I feel that was probably the peak of our journey unless 5/6 youngsters become good.
If the club don't make another signing then they... Enic 100% need to go.

I think they will, surely they will realise like last time not improving or having significant changes sets you back in the long term.

You’ve decided we won’t sign another player on the day an interview with our manager got released and he says ‘players are coming in’

Feel free to name one.

In fact, what's the definition of a "game changing" signing. Or is this the latest buzz word to go with ambition?
I think trying to claim a scalp like Sane, Alvarez, Olmo, Felix, Vlahovic etc.

Not that they are necessarily right for us (or good enough on current form), but I think too many of us act like we don’t have the right or status to attract the very best.

It simply comes down to wages. We can make the transfer fee work, but I think ENIC are allergic to high end wage demands.

So, instead, we’ve recast ourselves as a youth development team with the best stadium in world football.

I make absolutely no apology for wanting to see a star come to Spurs. It’s exiting. It puts a spring in your step. Forget JFK, I remember exactly where I was when we signed Van de Vaart.

Again, I’m not saying those names are right. But it feels like loads of us have just given up on transfers and accept we’ll never sign anyone in their prime.

What is game changing though?

Who was the last game changing player we signed? And what about them was considered game changing or what indeed did they come in and change?

Depends what the metrics are.

Deki and Lolo came in and transformed Conte's season, helping us storm to 4th.

Johnson and Maddison came in last season and between them helped fill the creativity void we've struggled with since Eriksen went to shit.

Toby came to us and formed a partnership with Jan and saw us concede our lowest PL goals ever. Hugo kept more clean sheets than any keeper we've ever had.

Dele came from MK Dons and was a key part of that Poch team. Sonny came to us 9 years ago and has scored a fuck ton of goals; it's not beyond the realms of possibility he could yet catch Kanes goals.

There's loads of players that have made a huge difference in the last decade or so. It just depends what people mean.

Pretending we haven't signed good players and they haven't had an impact is just ignorance.

I suspect the nature of football and the underlying tactics has changed so much, the ability of any given individual to have a demonstrable impact has reduced to all but the very best.

I think it’s easier for defenders and conservative midfielders to make a difference (Romero, for example), because the position can be excelled at with physical characteristics and professionalism. Although those qualities are rare, the further you move up the pitch, the more difficult it gets.

Even someone like Doku looks a bit lost at times, despite how good he is.

To answer your question directly, Romero and VdV are our best signings, but I think defence is an easier task.

Up top? Son.
