Roberto Soldado

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I wouldnt say his finishing is bad. He lacks alot of confidence.

Spain - 12 Games / 7 Goals

Getafe - 66 Games / 33 Goals
Valencia - 141 Games / 81 Goals
Tottenham - 21 Games / 10 Goals

He has scored this season, from open play or not.

I know that La Liga is not the Premier League etc. Although he knows how to score.

It seems to be a lack of confidence and maybe supply ?

He's looked better under 4-4-2 where hes not drifting out wide.

Im tired of defending Soldado. Oh lennons cross was too fast, keeper had a blinder that day, adebayor isn't liking with him well. The list of excuses is growing every match. At the end of the day, a good striker will put the chances he gets away and Bobby Soldier can barely get them on target.

I think to knock Soldado for not scoring would be just as bad as those who slate Torres all the time (to an extent).

When you look at a forward player, only a non-football fan would look at goals and start slagging the lad off. Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't Soldado been the spark of creativity that has assisted or been key to Adebayors goals? I think in the league he's 17 games, 5 goals, 4 assists - averaging a little under 7/10.

Last season Adebayor had 8 goals in 27 games and only one assist. Look at him this season.

Add into that, this is his timeline:

- Transfers from Spanish football to PL (different playing style, needs adapting)
- Plays in tactical formation that seems to have confused half the squad with no paired striker or consistent lineup
- Manager changes after heavy defeats and gets another tactical change and 5 games to learn how to play different style with a strike/attacking partner

If you look at it, that's 3 major changes in 4 months or so. I don't blame the guy, he'll come good - what players like Soldado will benefit from is support and faith; get behind him and give him a f**king chance to settle in!

Damned if we're going to do the whole 'Torres' thing at this club

I would agree that a backup striker is a definite though, especially if JD goes and we can't 100% be sure Ade's going to be focused for the final push (based on the past)

I know the feeling. I desperately want the lad to come good , but constantly keep finding myself making excuses for him. Probably because of the prize tag, but also he's shown moments of class.

Hope it is just a confidence issue.

Age is an issue with Soldado, was meant to be a here and now signing but that simply hasn't been the case.
Honestly what was AVB thinking playing a poacher type forward as a lone striker who he expected to act as a target man?

That's exactly how I feel, mate.
These chances aside, I mean you'd expect a player of Soldado's caliber to at least get another open goal already.

He needs to be putting away these 'blinder opportunities' that he's getting ... or admit it or not, people will start to lose their patience. BUT atm I am still up for defending him ... primarily because he DOES in fact offer a lot when he's not scoring.

Imo, age will NOT be an issue with Soldado.

Once (if) he finds his feet here, Soldado is in the mold of players such as Villa, RVP, and so many more that he can continue firing well enough in his 30's. If he was a pacey/power type striker, you would expect his skills to diminish naturally as he ages, and thus lose these attributes. But that is not the case because he relies on positioning not power. If he can still get in decent positions, and if the players around him continue creating chances, he should be fine.

Hence, I am not worried about him aging (in terms of finding his feet here).

Agreed with @ SinghYid SinghYid , age won't be as much of a factor for Soldado. The under six footers also tend to last a bit longer, which helps to serve into his favor.

Think what he meant was that he's looked good.. when he doesn't do that stuff and stays where he should
Well, I disagree with this as well.

His finishing has just not been good enough, of course, but a lot of his link-up play has been very classy. In the absence of goal-scoring, he's looking greatly improved on his appearances from earlier in the season, basically just standing around up top doing nothing.
