Hopefully he's back to help us stop being carved open during open playKaz Hirai

I don't know why you have such a hard time computing the simple notion that playing a actual centre forward in a team that creates double the opportunities than the opposition means youre likely to score more goals than them
More goals than opposition means winning a match

Ok broYou literally disagreed with a post saying that Solanke starting wouldn't stop us being carved open
I think Solanke will be good for us but he didn't stop Leicester scoring
I'm expecting:I won't put any money on Solanke being fit for Woolwich or announcing his arrival even if he is.
I'm expecting:
1) Should be OK after the international break
2) Needs another couple of weeks, but nothing to worry about
3) Injury is a bit worse than we thought, but another month of rest should fix it
4) Decided to opt for surgery and should be ready to play by February
5) Looking to be fit in time for the start of the new season
For Richarlison skip steps 1-4.

Except that's not how it works. Yesterday we created double the chances of Newcastle, but their chances were significantly easier to convert than ours so the XG was about the same. Which of the chances yesterday do we think Solanke would have converted over the player who had the ball? I reckon he'd have scored the Odobert header chance (that he tried to kick) but no guarantees he'd have been in that wider position in the first place.
As a team, our focus should be on better chances - which means sometimes less overloading in forward areas as it compresses space, and less chance to be hit on the break.

You’re right nothing is guaranteed, but it’s probably because we created far more clean cut chances that would likely have been converted with a more physical presence in the box.Why are so many fans presuming we’d have “won comfortably” if Solanke was playing? Was he not playing against Leicester. I like Solanke but nothing is guaranteed and he doesn’t solve our defensive issues.

For me, it seems like the player who has replaced Harry Kane is Mickey Van der Ven - in the sense that he is the key player who makes the team tick. If VDV doesn't turn up, we don't turn up.
Solanke's introduction may help with hold-up play, chance creation and more clinical finishing but VDV will be instrumental in getting the ball down there and getting back to stop the other team from breaking away.
I think VDV has to be the player we build the team around, whether that's with Ange or not, and if we fail to do that, we will lose yet another special talent.
Which would pretty much go against the entire history of our club. The closest we've ever got to not being dependent on one player is the double team - and even then there were many who felt Blanchflower was essential for effective control of the midfield and Cliff Jones was the Gareth Bale of the time - his pace on the wing would have been a huge loss.Or we could just avoid falling into the trap of making ourselves dependent on one player.
