Which would pretty much go against the entire history of our club. The closest we've ever got to not being dependent on one player is the double team - and even then there were many who felt Blanchflower was essential for effective control of the midfield and Cliff Jones was the Gareth Bale of the time - his pace on the wing would have been a huge loss.

The 60s Tottenham team from 64 onwards would have been a very different proposition without Jimmy Greaves's goals and the same with Chivers in the early 70s.

Part and parcel of having a great team is having great players and players become great because they can do things that other players can't. At the moment, I just feel very excited about VDV's development - you can tell a lot about the quality of a player by how they perform in a struggling team.
Good post 👏👏

Or that we only buy players from low table clubs and that anyone we buy gets injured after a couple of games?
I think the implication is that these players are getting their big moves and then ease up and get injured somehow.

I admit it doesn't seem to have much of a causal link to it but it feels true all the same.

I was disappointed to see Solanke didn't start against Newcastle. I guess maybe we just try and keep buying strikers until we find one that can stay healthy. Should happen eventually, right?

I think a more likely conspiracy theory is that teams are just allowed to kick the shit out of our players without repercussion which leads to more injuries. Saw it with Madders last season.

Saying that, we can't exactly help a big defender landing on a strikers ankle. Though you would question that Leicester wouldn't be defending the way they did if it was against Bournemouth meaning less chance for Solanke to get injured in that scenario.

Oh I completely agree we got fucked last year on reffing. Dan Burns crunching Maddison's foot in the box and not even getting a yellow was a fucking embarrassment of refereeing. He doesn't get a pass just because he's a maladroit goon- honestly it should have technically been a pen! They didn't even review it on TV correctly and the pro-Newcastle color commentator (totally biased prick) moaned on and on for the rest of the game about how naughty Maddison was and how the Newcastle fans had a right to whistle and jeer at him. Total fucking bullshit. Ref was an absolute dick on that call.

Totally this... Matty Cash on Bentancur... HELLOOOO?

Would be interesting to hear from the likes of Solanke, Johnson, Richie, Maddison, to hear if they feel the treatment/tackles they got when playing for their PREVIOUS clubs, matches the type of challenges they get when playing in a TOTTENHAM shirt!

...genuine question!

It’s more they are speculative punts from poor sides, so players aren't used to training and playing at top level intensity. Our rivals don’t tend to sign players from Everton, Bournemouth and relgation fodder like Burnley but due to Covid/cost of stadium/PSR issues affecting Spurs, we have to dip into a murky pond fishing for a bargain

No only Wolves, Leicester, Southampton,
And yes they do sign players from Everton: see Amadou Onana. And United chased Branthwaite all summer.

No implication on my behalf. I just think it's interesting the similarities between our over 50M purchases lately.

Could be anything from the pressure of being at a big club or new high intensity training. Or most likely just a co-incidence.

There appears to be some sort of phenomena to that end. Who knows what it is really is, or if we are just seeing things that aren't really there. We feel cursed either way.
