Porro - Romero - Van de Ven - Udogie
Sarr - Bentancur - Maddison
Johnson - Solanke - Son
Strong team please. Will suffer for it against Villa but beating City would do this team a world of good in belief.

How do you work that out. There are far better teams in Carabao and FA Cup. Can we beat all of the following over a two legged tie…. Lazio, Roma, Man Utd, Frankfurt, Bilbao, Galatasaray, Olympiakos, Lyon.
We certainly can.
Because in our domestic cups it’s less games, and a lot of the clubs field weakened teams. We could also get lucky and have our games all at home .
The team and manager isn’t good enough to go to to these European clubs away from home and get results.

We rested our team in the EL only for our regulars not to turn up yesterday. Far as I am concerned our regulars can play both City and Villa, they should easily have enough energy.

Can I ask why ? We are going to struggle to even get in the conference league next season. Nothing is going to be achieved in the league this season, so why just give up on an opportunity to win a trophy. our season is the league cup and fa cup. That’s all we have. Forget the europa , we will get knocked straight out of that towards the business end .

I personally don't believe we will struggle to get in the conference league this season. We have every chance of finishing in the top 6.

I see villa as a big rival of ours and i don't want them turning us over on our own patch. We are more than capable of beating them at home. We beat them 4-0 away and had we taken our chances at home we couldve beaten them quite convincingly then too.

Every sacking of ours has taken place mid-season (apart from Redknapp who'd just finished 4th).....

..........So you tell me; which managers WERE sacked for getting 6th then?
Technically, Sherwood was sacked after finishing 6th but he only had the job on an interim basis and he was expected to be replaced in the summer of 2014.

He was given an 18 month contract to cover the following season but I think that was just Levy's way of saying "This is the manager. Get behind him".

City, Woolwich, Liverpool nailed on top 3.

Chelsea and Villa will make up the 5.

It's a shootout between us Newcastle, Brighton and United (with new manager bounce) for 6th. Not sure I fancy our chances.

Indeed. That's why I didn't bother mentioning him.

So you think there's no way Ange would survived last season if he'd finished 6th?
He was heading for a top 4 finish and fell short.

Had he got the same results in a different order, many orders I think yes he gets sacked before finishing 6th.

In a way it was fortunate for him to have a lump of hard games at the end of the season. We didn't really win any big games last season, other than Liverpool at home with obvious circumstances.

How many wins did we get from Woolwich, Chelsea, United, City, West Ham, Liverpool? Was in 1 in 12?

Sorry, but I don't believe that for one second. My view (if I recall events correctly) is that Jose wanted to prioritise the final and wanted to rest players in the league game beforehand which Levy was against, given the chances of a CL spot (and of course the money) . I reckon they had a big disagreement and Levy sacked him which, in turn, probably saved him a few quid in manager bonus payments.
Not heard that argument before and cannot recall the team for the previous match but it makes much more sense than Levy just not wanting to p[ay a bonus. I recall Mourinho actually said there was no bonus in his contract for a cup win.

I'd love to win a pot, more than anything. If you could guarantee a league cup or Europa League win I'd happily lose every remaining league game this season.

I just don't trust us to do so.
I don’t trust us either but I do think at our best, we are a good side just not consistent enough to finish in the top 6. I’m looking forward to the jeopardy of the cups

That's not what I asked... I simply asked if he'd have finished 6th (i.e. after all 38 games) you think he def. would have been sacked?

Fact is there's no precedent for your original claim.

I mean, sometimes I get the feeling he was sacked before the final because Levy would have found it impossible to sack Jose if he'd won that cup.
This is a bit off-topic I know, but surely Jose's sacking was in some way linked to the 'proposed then immediately collapsed' super-league wasn't it?

IIRC (and maybe I don't), the super-league was announced on the Thursday or Friday, then by Sunday night several teams had pulled out of it. Levy had made it clear previously that he wanted it, whereas I thought Jose was vocal that weekend about not wanting it (?) ; Jose was then sacked on the Monday morning, and we announced that we'd pulled out of the super-league on the Tueday morning. Not sure how much of that is actually what happened, versus how much was just hearsay (and apologies if it's more the former than the latter - I've not looked any of that up, I'm just going by memory). But either way, with Jose being sacked within a day of us withdrawing from the super-league and apologising for 'making a mistake', I find it hard to believe that the two weren't at least partially connected...
