Ghastly fixture. They've had the better of us on our patch 3 seasons on the bounce. They rested a lot of players midweek, and have had a good start to the season.

As for us, form would have you believe we're doing alright, but this forum makes you think we're in a relegation battle. It's a warzone.

Vicario
Porro - Romero - Dragusin - Udogie
Bissouma - Sarr
Johnson - Kulusevski - Son
Solanke

I think we'll get the win on this one. We've got momentum from the City win.

I'd be inclined to start Maddison instead of Deki. He didn't play in the week and will be a bit fitter.

I think our home form is decent enough to get the win. The fact Villa lost to Palace midweek eases some of our loss too. They may have rested more but still both sides are relatively close.

I just hope Ange starts Kulu as a single attacking midfielder. Maddison on the bench is better for us.

ManCity was a tough match for the players with a few players coming off, hopefully as a precaution, as well as Udogie who had been rested as he'd played a few matches in succession, needing to come on as a sub for Van de Ven.

But if I am right that players were coming off as a precaution, and if Son and Spence are back, then it's 'only' Van de Ven who will really be missing, so Dragusin will play as CB. If Spence is fit, he plays in place of Udogie who has played a lot in recent games, but if Spence is not fit, then its Davies at LB.

Villa have quite a strong/powerful midfield, so rather Kulusevski and Maddison together, I think we go Bissouma/Bentancur/Kulusevski with Maddison on bench.

Players who might be doubtful (not fit enough) are in bold

Vicario
Porro, Romero, Dragusin, Spence
Kulusevski, Bissouma, Bentancur
Johnson, Solanke, Son

Subs: Forster, Davies , Udogie, Gray, Sarr, Maddison, Moore, Werner, Richarlison

Lets see if Ange has a press conference today, which will clarify a few uncertainties ?!

A draw against these would be a good result, a win would be fantastic .

I see them being a bit too much for us though.
1-3 Villa win
Yeah I wondered. Yeah I am bored.

Don’t see us causing them too many problems. With this first 11 it’s going to be long hard season . 2-0 loss

Good to see it’s a 3pm on a Saturday.

Nothing looks to have changed from last season, which is to be expected really, when you don’t add real quality to the first 11.

1-1

We just aren’t good enough sadly. 1-3 loss

Don’t quite get why you think we are better than them. You should also never expect a win there. Our record there is horrendous. The likely scenario is a loss. A draw would be a decent result. We aren’t that good ourselves remember

thinking lots of goals. Both of us can’t defend for shit.
3-3

Have no idea what the result will be as it’s a toss of a coin with us, but we just simply cannot lose this game. Horrible kick off time, in terms of atmosphere and energy in the ground . That will suit West Ham far better.

if this was at home I would be confident of a win . We seem to bully the lower half teams at home . Away we struggle. Palace haven’t had a win this season.

Fuck it. Just seen the draw. There is always next season. The fa cup it is then

Can I ask why ? We are going to struggle to even get in the conference league next season. Nothing is going to be achieved in the league this season, so why just give up on an opportunity to win a trophy. our season is the league cup and fa cup. That’s all we have. Forget the europa , we will get knocked straight out of that towards the business end .
You fear every match! Must be torture every day for you.

I'm looking forward to this one. Home. On a winning run. Chance to get right back in it.

COYS!!

Only clean sheet they have had this season was in a 0-0 draw against a bereft United. They conceded 2 to Ipswich and 2 to Everton.

Their defence is nothing special but they have a dangerous front line.

Could be a cracker of a game but I think we will edge the home win

Villa are in poor form in the league with 1 win in 4 and have also been dumped out of the cup by Palace now. 2 successive home draws against ETH’s Man United and Bournemouth, an away win at 10 man Fulham and then a draw away at Ipswich.

They seem to be saving their big performances for the CL and they are away at Brugge midweek.

Our last 4 has seen us win 2 and lose 2, giving us the exact same 6 points they have picked up over their last 4 - we don’t really do draws. The recent trend of this fixture has been we lose narrowly at home to these lot and then absolutely gub them away - twice winning 4-0 in the last 3 years.

I think this will be a draw and I don’t think either side will be too disappointed with that, I’m saying 2-2, they are as crap at the back as we are

Gatsby Gatsby has had a great run of results when starting the OMT. Going back to at least the start of last season he's had wins against Sheff U, Fulham, Forest, Ferencvaros and AZ Alkmaar.

Some might suggest he's been carefully curating his match thread history. But you can't doubt his balls out approach in taking this one on. Good luck to him.

Drop our best player this season against Villa?......good idea....

:nunothumb:

It is a squad game.
We should not run good performance ruthlessly to the ground, specially when we have rested Madders on the bench.

I know the narrative is strong that Madders is shit and Kulu is god, but in all fairness, Madders started the season exceptionally well. In last EPL game he had the best chance to score and was much more influential compared to Kulu.

I think we should keep everyone on prime form, not to run some players to the ground and freeze out others.

If Son is back, I would as well start Madders and bring Kulu on from the bench.

Trust me I was debating leaving this one for someone else. I did have a long unbeaten run at one point, but that’s gone with the wind now.

Lucky you're not the manager then...👍

The traditional pattern with us is that a big win against an important team is always followed by an embarrassing defeat in the next match. So I am fully expecting us to be high on our own farts after beating City and not be ready for battle against Villa.

Let's see if they have learned anything at all. They need to play even harder than they did against City if we want to win matches consistently. If we work harder than Villa we will win.
