It’s fatigue from playing games that will be the cause of this. They are t training much just now because of the amount of games. Before every training session they do strengthening exercises as a pre warm up so this is down to how we play. Our full backs will do so much more running in a game than a conventional full back. They are up and down the pitch constantly,in the pitch twisting and turning constantly, recovery running constantly and this will take its toll eventually. Porro is next to go.
In VDV’s case he’s getting asked to constantly cover for a full back and it’s not just 10 yard sprints,it’s 40 yarders at times which again will take its toll the amount of times that it has to happen.

Pretty sure dudu dudu dug up the stats on this and our CBs aren't even in the top 25% for sprints or high intensity runs per game. The FBs I don't know but if we have more possession and don't play a counter attacking system, maybe the logic would be that we should have LESS sprints to do.

Villa played a high line last year and also went without the ball a lot, logically they should have done WAY more sprints at CB and FB than us. They had much less injuries.

Correct. Basically, if it's high intensity sprints that's the issue then there should be a fuck tonne more players out injured unless we simply have managed to exclusively purchase defenders with hammys made of cheese string.

More than likely it is fatigue compounded by other injuries forcing more players to play without enough recovery time.

Just watching and allowing Elanga to have a free hit and score the other day is indefensible , he has done this constantly , if Ange goes whoever comes in is going to have a job getting this guy to play LB , has no intensity and just seems to not give a shit .

I watch Van Dijk, Robertson, Trent and they sprint like lunatics for 90 mins. As hard if not harder than ours. Why are they so resistant to this problem with as great or greater intensity. It’s like we need to study Liverpool’s fitness regime.
They’re better footballers playing in a better team that is much better coached. That’s really all it is. They don’t have special hamstrings or anything different physically.

There is the issue around the asthmatic allegations which afaik have never actually been proved, it’s more rumour online than anything.

Van Dijk sprint like a lunatic…..
You jest surely
He reads the game like a chess master at the back .
Its positioning and reading of the game and also team mates who are all on same wavelength around him
Leads by example and fellow players dont want to let him down never mind the coach.

Ferdinand was another at Utd in his heyday who very rarely needed to go through the gears.

So to get like them with Robertson leading the attack and covering the defence, do we simply need to buy better players who are more athletic and resistant to injuries? When we played them their players also were much stronger than ours, only a few of ours like Bergvall seemed to have similar strength and aggression.

That fair enough although I have seen quite a few quick moves from Van Dijk recently but how do you think Liverpool ended up with such a physically strong team and one that can play high energy for so long for so many games. It’s now happening under Klopp and Slot. Do Liverpool have a better scouting system or clearer vision, are their medical and fitness teams better.

What a change in destiny for Udogie since the beginning of last season!
At the beginning of Angelos' time at Spurs, last season, both pundits and Spurs fans were raving about Udogie being one of the best young LB not just in the EPL but in Europe; clubs like Real M. & Man City were being linked to him (Udogie being the solution to the LB issue Man City have had for several seasons) and his price tag was said to be around £70-80m and yet Spurs fans were totally against any potential sale.
Now so many (most?) Spurs fans just want him out and replaced...

That’s because ours are hacked off. Maddison, Son and Johnson are pansies, but the others aren’t

I don’t want him replaced.

He had a massive surgery last summer and niggley injuries this year.

A down year after an injury like that was expected
